pillow talk, 2024
Hair and makeup transfer on canvas
40 x 60 cm
'pillow talk' is made from hair and traces of makeup transferred directly from my face onto tissue and dissolved into the surface of the canvas. The stretcher bars have been warped inwards, giving the work a soft, slightly pillowed form rather than a conventional flat surface. The materials make the work physically of me, holding traces of the body and of a particular moment. The work draws on the imprints left behind on a pillow after moments of intimacy, sleep or a night of drinking. It comes from a period of loss, longing and melancholia, and the ways I tend to romanticize these experiences rather than separate myself from them. The work is soft and feminine, romanticizing sadness and allowing the private aftermath of heartbreak to become something sentimental and beautiful.
.
and instagram has cooked the image quality beyond belief, but we move..
