✨ My stoma doesn’t define me, it, certainly doesn’t stop me but it has shaped who I am today. ✨

On 22 December 2021, I found out I’d need surgery and a permanent stoma formed to get rid of bowel cancer.

After the initial shock — and picking myself up from a heap of tears on the floor - the first question I asked was: “Will I still be able to ride?”

Thing is, I hadn’t actually ridden a bike since moving back to the UK from Colombia a few years earlier… but that was still my first thought.

The answer was, of course, yes. So I did what any biker would do - I started bike shopping.

I went for the GS because I wanted something I could ride on and off-road, and I knew from the BMW Off Road Skills course that these bikes were way more capable off-road than I was 😅.

I couldn’t ride for a few months after surgery (I wasn’t even allowed to lift anything heavier than a kettle), but the GS was delivered to my house as my motivation to recover.

Then came three months of chemo - absolute hell - and one of the many side effects was that my hands would cramp and I’d drop whatever I was holding - not exactly safe to ride. But as soon as I was able, me and Phoenix (my GS) hit the road.

Since then, I’ve ridden more than in all the years I’ve had my licence prior.

It took cancer for me to re-evaluate what’s really important in my life - and that’s bikes.

They’ve always been my passion, but that experience pushed me to go all-in again - not just riding, but getting back to working in the motorcycle industry too.

Now I get to combine the two: bikes are my work, my passion and my joy ❤️

Very late posting the @_motogirlsuk_ enduro training day with @technicalenduroskillstraining
I hardly took any pics and videos and was enjoying it too much to remember to turn on my insta360. 🤦‍♀️

It was a brilliant day, everyone learned new skills and techniques and had loads of fun at the same time. And I finally tried the little ramp 😊

Can’t wait for the next one!

I had the honour of speaking at the Women in Moto festival last weekend. Talking about my unconventional route into biking, how I broke into the industry with no contacts and what happened after my cancer diagnosis. Spoiler alert - more riding than ever happened!!

It was so nice chatting to so many people after my talk and I’ve received lovely messages since. Including one absolute star who took inspired action and may well have landed herself a new client 🤩

It was my first time at the event and I absolutely loved it. @lindztraveller has created such a lovely vibe and I’ll definitely be back.

Sophie had a blast too and it was lovely to have her and @thealmondrider supporting me in the front row.

It was great to catch up with @hayleybellwrwr (and Sophie’s new bestie in Nya!) and so many wonderful @wrwrapp women.

And all the other amazing women I met / caught up with there.

If you’ve not been to @womenmotouk before, it should definitely be on your list for next year! by @zoeonbikes
