i was my grandparent’s first grandchild. my grandpa wanted me to choose his name since he didn’t want to be called grandpa. i tried a few options. i started calling him bob since that’s what everyone else called him, then called him bobby which he was not a fan of, and it eventually made its way to “bobba”.
in cantonese, dad is “baba”. bobba was me and my sister’s main father figure growing up after my dad died. so in more ways than one, my naming of my grandpa was perfect.

he loved obsessing over tv shows and doing the crossword puzzle on his ipad and stalking the whole family on find my friends. he loved cortados and affogatos and running errands. he loved his family.
he taught me about jazz and our family history and how to use a steak knife.

he was funny and sweet and caring, stubborn and grumpy but never ever mean. he was (and forever will be) one of my favorite people in the world.

i love you bobba <3 by @zoequon
