USA Judo is proud to announce a contribution from Zoltan Bathory, founding guitarist of Five Finger Death Punch and a lifelong judoka.

As part of the band’s 2026 U.S. Tour, a portion of ticket sales will support elite judo and BMX athletes on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We cannot thank Mr. Bathory enough for his generous support of our athlete programs,” said USA Judo CEO Corinne Shigemoto. “Judo has played a large role in Mr. Bathory’s life and to give back to the sport through this thoughtful gesture is incredible. Our USA Judo athletes will benefit from his generosity by way of high-performance programming as we prepare for the rapidly approaching LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Love Jiu-Jitsu and my Jiu-Jitsu brothers… but ya’ll need some Judo in your game… you don’t have to get fancy but at least learn the basic concepts… I’ve been dropping peeps on their heads for 4 decades… been the flight ✈️ instructor for Jiu-Jitsu academies… I do “Judo for Jiu-Jitsu” seminars - so I see the gaping hole in a lot of competitor’s stand up game… Yes you can pull guard … sure … but you wouldn’t / shouldn’t do that on the streets …. AND … you shouldn’t deny yourself the joy you get from launching somebody and scraping the ceiling with their feet 😎😂 just sayin…. Learn some Judo too 😎

柔道 - I tied my first Judo belt around my waist over 40 years ago… and stepped onto the tatami without knowing that the code of martial arts, the Bushido, would become my compass in every arena of life.

Martial arts is not something you casually do. You *become* a martial artist. It rewires your mind and forges your personality. I owe my success to the philosophy and discipline that Judo and Jiu Jitsu instilled in me.

Last night I was honored as my heroes and inspirations, the absolute legends of the sport who later In life became my friends - Olympians and world champions Mike Swain and Joe Marchal - presented me with my 4th Dan in Judo, formalizing the next step in a journey that began at age 9 and still continues…

Around twenty years ago, as a Judo black belt teaching takedowns to Jiu-Jitsu players, I realized Jiu-Jitsu was the missing Ne Waza of Judo. So I put on the white belt once again and, alongside my Judo, began my Jiu-Jitsu journey with humility, starting from the bottom. (Today a first-degree BJJ black belt.)

Because Still and forever, I will remain a student… sharpening the sword… grateful to my teachers, my brothers, and the Judo and Jiu-Jitsu family. 🫡 by @zoltanbjj

A DOUBLE TAKEDOWN by the referee @pjudges_jiujitsu?! 😂 Talk about a "two-for-one" special, complete with the faceplant.

😂😂😂 History has been made: the first time a ref earns two money bags from the Judo Mafia. 💰🥋

(For the uninitiated: at every PGF event, “the Judo Couch” is reserved for Judo Olympians who throw cash bags for big takedowns.. and The ref just cashed out!)

☠️🏴‍☠️☠️ The cross lapel grip can be a powerful attacking grip. In fact, I particularly love attacking from the cross grip myself. 🛑✋⚠️ But be careful here…

There are devastating counter attacks available against the cross grip.

In Judo, if you take a cross grip, you’re expected to attack almost immediately. You can’t just hang out there ☠️ And there is a good reason for that ☠️

Even though Judo already outlawed standing armbars and wristlocks… injuries can still happen from the explosive nature and speed of the sport. And the cross grip is particularly vulnerable for that… you can use it, but for attacks and be quick and beware…

Now …. in Jiu-Jitsu, however, I often see people using the cross grip as a control position, and sometimes even as a stalling position. Be careful… those devastating countermeasures are all legal in jiu jitsu !!! ☠️

The counter attack: Instead of fighting the grip, I anchor it and step / pull back / From there you have access to a standing armbar ☠️ and if your opponent is defending - there is a a wristlock ☠️ and various throws… These are legal in Jiu-Jitsu

Now ⚠️🛑✋ This attack happens fast and hits hard, so train it slowly, communicate with your training partner, and use control. Do not injure your training partners.

Judo guys 🛑✋ for you these are completely illegal ⚠️🏴‍☠️

A visit to Budapest to my old stomping grounds 🇭🇺 They said they couldn’t wait to see me... they just didn’t mention it would be from this angle upside down 🙃 🔄 The homecoming celebration is hitting a little harder than expected 😂 But … Never show up to a homecoming empty-handed… so I also brought some gifts from America 🇺🇸💥 This is how The Judo Tribe rolls 😎

I recently had the honor of teaching a Jiu-Jitsu seminar at Carlos Machado’s HQ, sharing many of the concepts that make up my “Judo For Jiu-Jitsu” approach.

In this seminar we explore:

✓ Grip Anchoring

✓ Kuzushi (off-balancing)

✓ Spatial Dominance

✓ Controlling the geometry of the stance

✓ Applying Judo principles to modern Jiu-Jitsu

Rather than focusing on individual techniques, the goal is to understand the underlying principles that create opportunities for throws, takedowns, and positional control.
