a lil work, growth & giggles folio from working in sports

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
not sure I’ll ever quite have the words to explain how special it was to join a new national team & play a small part in capturing the momentum of the gold jersey — but this video crams 6 weeks into 4 minutes and is probably my best bet 🥹

working in women’s sports has been the most rewarding path since taking a chance back in 2021 for the rugby world cup and I’ve never really looked back since. i think it can get really easy for us as content producers/storytellers to minimize the journey into flash 1 min edits but sometimes just recapping the journey can be just as valuable, or at least for the team themselves, and so this one was literally just a lil love letter/thanks to the team for what will always be a tour to remember.

shoutout to all the girls working in the game - i see u & i absolutely love to see u shine 📸

here’s to sharing more stuff this year for no other reason than just to showcase what’s possible 💛 #rugby #womeninsport #storytelling by @zonas.lens

finally done it — after leaving my full time job three weeks ago and helping the fams move their lives to the other side of the world I’ve found time to repurpose this page to a creative space to store all my fun lil projects over the years. Not really tryna be the flashy type — just wanted somewhere to log my growth and progress since picking up the camera when I was 16 🤎

Feel free to unfollow or stick around, it’s basically gonna be reels & pics of my work so I have a reference point.

Big luv to the person who sent this message too — I think it’s easy to underestimate this line of work when you’re in it but if u can impact the one then that’s a huge win for all.

What a language to be proud of & to share with the world. I may not have had the privilege of growing up around the Tongan language but forever feel blessed to be surrounded by it in so many ways especially on days like this one.

To serve such a special team of women ready to represent the nation. To capture a small part of what is such a precious moment in time with their loved one and to feel all the more connected to my own family story. How could you not feel proud, how could your heart not at least try to learn a little more. Happy Tongan Language week from this lil gewl who is still very much on her journey but has always been proud of where her giants hail from 🇹🇴🤍 taken in Kingdom Of Tonga by @zonas.lens

Anyone else been using threads?? I’ve been the most passive follower on threads (loves a repost) but never really posted uniquely until a few days ago and was blown away by the responses. I find it’s definitely a more genuine platform for connection & community 🌞🥹 it’s been quite a refreshing experience for sure not to mention how cool are these ppl that responded with the work that they do?!

Maybe its me but i feel our side of the world are a little less likely to respond to call outs like this in the light of feeling “not ready” or “too confident” but it does make me wonder why we do that to ourselves 🥹 In a time where our work can feel extremely isolating/lonely effort it’s always nice to be reminded how many ppl are flying the same flag around the world 💐👩🏽‍💻

Anyways, as you were 🕺🏽 have a great day & go make some magic wherever you are x by @zonas.lens

Anyone who’s been in a workshop w me would probably have heard me start with this gentle reminder that we can feel grateful for an opportunity and also feel proud to be there at the same time. It doesn’t have to be one or the other 🕺🏽🤍

Two years ago, a room of 30-ish @weareyoungpacificleaders Sports Leaders from the pacific region gathered in a conference room in Santa Monica and shared thoughts on what the future of sports in our region, and beyond, could look like. My good friend, and absolute trailblazer in our industry, @storieswithharri , captured this moment before a workshop that I ran with our group to develop our leadership compasses & enhance our storytelling through sport. When I say I’ve been thankful for this particular village of stars since meeting them, I truly mean it. They have our regions interests at heart, guiding them through this next wave of leadership in sports across the Moana.

I know how many of us can get in our head about an opportunity that arrives in our lives and whether we’re ready for it or even deserving — my friends, you absolutely are and I hope you know you can feel grateful and know that you deserve to be where you are in the same feeling 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Have a wonderful day, go be magical n dat ✨✨ taken in Santa Monica, California by @zonas.lens

I truly don’t think some people understand the stressss that can go in to preparing for game day Stadium MC roles, especially for an event like the @fifawomensworldcup but this video is the quietest lil glimpse of what it can look like 🤣🤣

The mic checks, gettting your script the day of and needing to familiarise yourself with new content each match and then trying to blend with your co-hosts (who sometimes you meet on the day for the first time) is absolutely real. This was my first ever Stadium MC gig and I was fresh out of leaving my full time role at NZR with no idea what was ahead of me. It ended up being such a blessing in disguise getting to step away from rugby and into a whole nother world of sport, at such a special time for the women’s game as well. 🎤🏟️⚽️

Really thankful to Stace & the team at KOJO for taking this first chance with me and helping me expand what working in sport could look like at such a crucial point of my journey. And I feel like we’ve just kept swimming ever since. Also big love to my co-hosts @ash_tulloch & @najjah_calibur for being the best to work with in my rookie tournament 🫶🏽🕺🏽 it was an absolute party every single time.

Idek if this is valuable or helpful to anyone buttt sometimes the day goes by so quickly that you don’t get the chance to debrief with anyone before the next day (mainly because of how flat out on the go everyone is) so you become your harshest, most honest, critic 🤣🤣

I do love a digital debrief though, especially for how it can mark your own progress with yourself. One thing I’ve always been aware of (even during my radio major at uni) is this “presenter voice” that I activate now and again that leans towards an American accent (who is SHEEE 🤣🤣) and so after day 1 at the Singapore SVNS I did a digital reflection/review on some of the things I wanted to work on (including not trying to assess myself against my Co-Host who was absolutely smashing it) and then got too shy to share anywhere so now 3 years later here we are finally exploring the inner thoughts of a girl who just wanted to keep knowing better so she could do betterrr.

Still so far from getting this craft right but definitely have made progress since this lil post-gameday reflection in the Singapore Stadium tunnel. Shoutout to anyone who sits with their own craft and assesses themselves regularly but also hope your thoughts are kind enough to understand that it doesn’t mean we need to sit in comparison of others and that when we look sideways to those around us that it should stem from inspiration rather than intimidation 💐💐 taken in Singapore National Stadium by @zonas.lens

You ever enter a room where you don’t know anyone and your mind goes into social anxiety overdrive? That’s what had happened just before this moment 🤣

Both Diogo and I had been flown into Eindhoven to panel for the UEFA Champions League business case session and there was a dinner the night before. Lemme tell you, my anxiety was through the roof getting ready for this dinner 🤣 knew no one, in a new country, limited knowledge about football & ultimately could’ve just sat there comfortably in my own bubble. Happened to sit next to Diogo, who was Head of Social for Benfica at the time, and once we realised our connection for storytelling we ended up ranking our desserts for the giggles and I’ve been a fan of his journey ever since 🫶🏽

So cool what can become of a lil moment of courage to meet someone new in the room or simply ask them what they reckon about the menu 🤣🤣 just two humans working in sport tryna make friends (and now Diogo’s at Inter Miami how gooood!!)

Grateful for the connections that sports allows us to make even if it’s simply a hello at one random dinner in Eindhoven three years ago 🥹🌞 taken in Eindhoven, The Netherlands by @zonas.lens
