Meet Gromit! 👋

One-year-old Tasmanian Devils Gromit and Pugsley have made their debut out on habitat at Monarto Safari Park, joining two-year-old female Ellie.

Gromit has been busy exploring his new surroundings, as captured by keeper Heidi.

You might also notice the viewing glass is looking a little dirtier than usual. That’s deliberate! While the young devils get used to their new habitat, keepers are leaving the glass slightly dirty so they can see the barrier and learn where it is, helping prevent any accidental bumps.

A big thank you to habitat sponsor @arborgreen.australia for supporting the Tasmanian Devils at Monarto Safari Park.

Keep an eye out for Gromit, Pugsley and Ellie on your next visit. 🖤 by @zoossa

🐵 Getting ready for Cassie

Before Cassie even arrives at Monarto Safari Park, the Chimpanzee troop is already getting familiar with her sights and sounds.

The primate team has been showing the 12-strong troop photos and videos of Cassie and playing recordings of her vocalisations.

More than 2,000km away, the Rockhampton Zoo team is doing the same with Cassie, showing her videos and playing sounds from the Monarto Safari Park troop.

It’s all part of helping Cassie and the established troop become familiar with each other before the next stage begins. by @zoossa

Happy World Habitat Day! 🌿🌍

Today we’d love to share more about the Cockies Helping Cockies program, a vital conservation initiative restoring habitat in the Limestone Coast of SA for the endangered South-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.

The program aims to empower and support landholders and locals to protect this special species through habitat restoration and nesting tree preservation.

Zoos SA staff and volunteers recently visited the Limestone Coast to plant over 1400 trees in shelter belts – but it’s not just us that can make an impact!

A visit to the @lclandscapesa website will point you in the right direction for grant opportunities for local landholders interested in protecting habitat for cockatoos into the future. ❤️

This project is funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust and delivered by Limestone Coast Landscape Board, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel and Zoos SA.

Join us at Monarto Safari Park these school holidays to get creative and discover the wild with a new lens during Art in the Park.

Grab your free activity booklet to discover incredible sculptures and murals inspired by the natural world, and complete fun creative challenges along the way.

A big birthday calls for a post-party snooze. 🎉💤

Happy Birthday to Xing Qiu! 🐼

In true Giant Panda style, Xing Qiu celebrated turning six years old by tearing into enrichment boxes packed with scented sawdust, crunchy carrots, and tasty panda cake.

Naturally, after all that hard work doing his favourite thing (eating), he went on to do his other favourite activity (enjoy a world-class snooze).

We'd love to hear your wishes for the black-and-white birthday bear below. ❤️

🐵 Meet the Chimpanzee troop Cassie will meet at Monarto Safari Park.

The 12 Chimpanzees range from almost four-year-old Happy to Boyd, who is nearly 48, with experienced mums, playful youngsters and adult males all playing different roles within the group.

There’s Zombi and Hannah, both experienced mums, Boyd who still loves a game of chasey, Gombe who often starts the fun, and Enzi, one of the largest males, who is regularly seen playing gently with younger Chimpanzees.

There is no predetermined surrogate for Cassie. Introductions will happen gradually, at the pace of Cassie and the troop.

A fundraiser is also underway to help support Cassie’s ongoing care and transition.

School holidays are here, so remember to book your Monarto Safari Park visit in advance. by @zoossa
