Ironman Cozumel 70.3

Official Time 6:17:00
Swim Time 27:52
Bike Time 2:30:48
Run Time 3:10:04

You only fail when you stop trying.

Cozumel has a special place in my heart because it’s where my brother and I did our first full Ironman and now, it’s where we did our first Ironman 70.3. Grateful for the guys that push me to be better and keep going after there’s nothing left. Surround yourself with people better than you and you’ll achieve things you only thought were dreams. I gave this race such a strong effort and am so proud of my swim and bike. I beat myself up over the past few days about all the what ifs and how I felt like I failed because of my run. But looking back I’ve improved so much and achieved things I never thought were possible in this race. Race recap in the slides.

Thank you to all the friends, family, event staff, and locals that supported and made this race so fun. Love you all🫶🏻

The run was nearly a repeat of my full a few years ago. I came out at a strong pace. I was amped up and on track to go sub 5. I was getting confident and got humbled real quick when not even a mile in the cramps set in. It eventually got to the point where I was locking up in both legs. I managed to keep putting one foot in front of the other and put my pride aside as I watched people pass me. But eventually I found my way home and walked down that red carpet waving the red, white, and blue.

Don’t mind me cramping coming up the red carpet.

The swim was by far the best ocean swim I’ve ever had. I thought I’d stay honest and hop in the second fastest group, which was a mistake. I spent half the swim taking the long way around swimmers and diving under them. At one point another athlete pulled my waist into the buoy because he got caught in the current, and then he put me in the same situation. I ended up grinding it out and swam at a solid pace to come in around my goal time. I even beat out a few of the pros!

The bike was near perfect until mile 30. Pace was strong. The views were beautiful. I was coming through the center and the crowd was hyping me up. I wasn’t paying attention because I was lost in the celebration, and I hit a bump that caused my bottle wit by @zrahm39

St. George Marathon 2025

Goal time - 4:30:00. Final time 4:20:23.

“He who says he can and he who says he can’t are both usually correct.”

If you know me, you know I hate running. But every year I make a goal to push myself to do something that will challenge me. This year’s challenge was the St. George marathon.

I really thought this was going to be the marathon that I’d train really hard for and dominate. I set a loose goal of 4:30 because I knew it would be a stretch and that I’d have to train for it. But after a few training sessions I ended up in the hospital with rhabdomyolysis and compartment syndrome. The doctors told me I’d likely have kidney failure and there was a chance they’d have to cut open my biceps and forearms to fix some compartment syndrome. Luckily neither of those happened, and I had a really quick recovery. It was truly a miracle. But it completely put a pause in my training for about 2 months. And right when training picked back up I made the mistake of trying to compensate for lost time and overtrained leading to some brutal shin splints. I pushed through the shin splints as long as I could, but eventually the pain was too much. I took about 2-3 weeks off of running leading to the marathon so I could heal. To say I came into the marathon underprepared would be an understatement.

But I never stopped believing in myself. Will power and discipline kicked in and I just kept putting one foot in front of the other to come in at a final time of 4:20:23.

Thanks to all the friends and family for the support. This would be way harder without y’all.

“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”

Kauai Marathon 2024 in the books. Blessed to finish with these boys by my side and grateful for the other runners along the way that got me to the finish. Having not trained for this I couldn’t have pulled through without these boys encouraging me the whole way. Manager to achieve a 4:58 and conquer the nearly 2,200 ft elevation gain on this course. With the right people in your corner, you can do anything. Thanks everyone for all the support🫶🏻 taken in Kauai, Hawaii by @zrahm39

IRONMAN COZUMEL 2023

“ZACH, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!”

These were some of the craziest and rewarding words I have ever heard.

I did it! I finally achieved a lifelong goal of becoming an Ironman and got to check it off my bucket list. And I did it alongside two of my best friends @arahm55 @zackdriscoll

To all the friends, family, spectators, locals, crew, and all others involved in making this event possible and supporting me along the way - THANK YOU! I could feel the support the entire time and was so stoked to get back home on race night to a bombardment of texts of those following along. I can’t thank you all enough.

I’m sure some of you know by now that the swim portion was cancelled. Unfortunately, all those swim practices and miles in the pool never got to get put to use, and it led to a crazy start and a huge disadvantage. I started the day with tears in my eyes because this completely ruined my game plan. My nutrition was behind. My feet hurt from walking a mile on rocks to and from the swim start and bike start. My morale was crushed as I knew I would’ve been one of the first people out of that water. But I couldn’t let that stop my race from being the race of a lifetime. After all, I wasn’t the only one disappointed about the swim cancellation.

We began on the bike about 20-30 minutes behind the first group of participants due to the way they organized the start. Unfortunately, at mile 70 on the bike and going forward I faced some intense leg cramps. But I told myself that I would crawl across the finish line if I had to. Even though my legs turned to rocks and wouldn’t move because they were cramping so bad, I dug deep and pushed through the intense pain. It was amazing to receive so much encouragement from participants as well.

I could not have done this without all your love and support. I have to give a huge shoutout to Zack and Alex who pushed me when I couldn’t run and even walked a little with me just to keep my spirits high.

Finally, I learned that whatever challenges lie ahead, you can and will conquer them. You will survive. And there are loads of people supporting you that you don’t even know about.

Love you guys❤️ by @zrahm39
