!!!! ZULU ALI ALERT !!!!

ZuluAliGroup is NOW AVAILABLE on all streaming platforms!

We'll preface this by saying that the artist name its under is the band's previous name "Zulu Ali quartet" because Distrokid didn't let us change the band name.

This was absolutely a labor of love. 5 songs that really showcase the immense talent and fervor of all musicians involved, all consisting of different genres that exist within the beautiful diaspora of jazz music.

Blatino: A song deeply inspired by the great Irakere, it merges jazz vocabulary with Cuban salsa rhythms.

Fire Next Time: A tune written in honor of James Baldwin's poignant novel of the same name, it merges smooth hip-hop grooves with bebop vocabulary, later evolving into a salsa jam!

Fruit From The Tree: written in homage to Billy Holiday's song "Strange Fruit", it is a jazz waltz that evokes the emotions of being black in the shadow of giants, living to carry on the legacy of the greats that struggled, suffered and died before us.

F E'rbody: A song dedicated to trombonist Masai Marcelin's late father. A soulful, swinging tune that stylistically pays homage to the great Art Blakey. Make yo money boo, don't let people bring you down in your pursuit for personal truth.

Monterroza: A song written by Masai Marcelin in dedication and devotion to his wife and mother of his children. An emotional ballad preceding a heavy samba groove.

A Huge thanks to all musicians involved!

Felipe Quijano: Bass Guitar
Carlos Rodriguez: Electric Guitar
Roberto Navarro: Congas
Michael Wise: Drumset
Ray Kim: Alto Saxophone
Masai Marcelin: Piano (tracks 1,2,5) Trombone (tracks 3,4)
