Custom designed guitars built in Media, PA United States. Increasingly, a lot of general woodworking and CNC as well.

Made my whole year 😍

Haven’t done a custom guitar project in quite some time, but here’s a reminder that I have in fact sold custom guitars! In this case, a Goldtop Les Paul/Strat mashup in the style of @mikeness from @socialdistortion by @zwitchguitars

Wouldn’t call myself “a drummer” per se, but I’m surprised at how quick I learned to get my limbs moving somewhat independently by @zwitchguitars

Friends.

When I said I’d never wire a 335 again, some of you laughed. Many sympathized. And I got a lot of good tips about using tubing, which I appreciate!

But the deity of Loothing said “Oh yeah? Watch this!”

Literally one day after getting my sparkle green 355 wired up, my son goes “Dad, my guitar doesn’t work”

And here I am again, fishing electronics through the stupid f-holes 🤦‍♂️🫠😂 by @zwitchguitars

Believe me when I tell you this will be my last 335 wiring project 😭 by @zwitchguitars

My binary brother Claude didn’t quite get the hole spacing correct for this 355 template, but it’s close enough (over) that I shouldn’t have to worry about wire lengths.

Just soldering properly and fishing this nightmare into the guitar when I’m done 🤦‍♂️😭😅 by @zwitchguitars

🤦‍♂️

I said I was going to learn upright bass, which I was until I got derailed with a hurt wrist. But the boy and his friends say they “have a band”…and what’s a band without drums?

So now they can practice at our house also, and I can half-learn another instrument. Eh, we’re all only young once 😅 by @zwitchguitars

Success? Failure?

Going to steal these generic “Filtertron” pickups from one of my first guitar builds. It already had its neck stolen and was just sitting around looking sad, so it’s guts will make the ES-355 into a noisemaker instead by @zwitchguitars

And that’s a wrap! Lacquer buffed out, hardware assembled, and now my once-decapitated @epiphone ES-355 Futura has new life!

I have another broken ES-355 with the pickup assembly in it, but I’m still considering whether I should take it out or not. It’s a matter of do I want to fish the electronics once (I.e put new ones in here, leave pickups installed there) or twice (re-use the electronics, but then install them again in both guitars)

But for now, I’m enjoying the sparkles and color-shifting 🥳😍😎🤘 by @zwitchguitars

Turned out just as I hoped!

There was no chance that the paint was going to feather in, so choosing a similar but contrasting paint seemed like the right choice. The “stinger” makes it all look intentional, and only thing left is the clear 😎 by @zwitchguitars

It’s pretty hard to show what this color-shift paint looks like…tried to keep my feet and guitar in the same place and just move the camera.

It doesn’t match the other paint, but it’s cool enough looking to not have to! 😎🤘🐠 by @zwitchguitars

When many people think of 3D printing, they think it’s just for wasteful kids trinkets that they play with for 10 minutes and throw away.

But I love 3D printing for the problems it solves. In this case, leaving a 9V battery in a guitar when you don’t need the pickup will eventually lead to a leaking, crusty battery terminal. So I printed a fake 9V battery, which keeps the terminals from getting all gross AND keeps the wires from flapping around when playing unamplified 🥳 by @zwitchguitars

With color-shifting paint, didn’t think I’d be able to just blend the paint on both sides, so making a gigantic “stinger” (triangle) instead.

Bought some color shift paint that won’t match, but is still fun, but it needs black underneath for maximum effect. Good thing is, black really highlights that I need some more fill before moving on by @zwitchguitars
