Curated by Ilaria Marotta and Andrea Baccin, Basement Art Assembly Biennial (BAAB) Issue 00 officially closed on November 29th. Featuring works by over forty artists, the biennial brought together new commissions, public interventions, site-specific installations, films, music, food, performances, gardening, and many impromptu actions. As the first underground biennial in Rome, BAAB turned Basement Roma into a shared space for experimentation and exchange. A huge thank you to all the artists, curators, friends and collaborators, visitors, partners, and supporters who made this first edition possible. See you in 2027!!! 💥 @00_baab

Join us tomorrow! This Saturday, November 29th from 1–2 PM, as part of the 12-hour closing program of the Basement Art Assembly Biennale @00_baab at @basementroma , we are presenting ‘The Melancholy of this Useless Afternoon, chapter 2’ (2023), by Palestinian artist Dina Mimi (@___sa3lok). With The melancholy of this useless afternoon, Dina Mimi researches the links between the fugitive and the smuggler, their shared gestures and relationships to being seen. Chapter 2 employs a clandestine style to document the practice of bird smuggling and the part the human body plays in this act. Dina Mimi is a Palestinian visual artist and filmmaker who is based between Palestine and the Netherlands. Mimi works with experimental filmmaking and lecture performances that research the question of how and when bodies become sites of resistance. This question finds its material interest in moving images, especially found footage, that is discarded and therefore deemed invaluable. Understanding editing as a playground, Mimi plays with opacity in moving images by seeking to brush up against footage which desires to be ungraspable or is in the act of vanishing.This is a continuous attempt at non-linear narration as a way of disfiguring one’s. #dinamimi @basementroma @curamagazine taken in BASEMENT ROMA by @00_baab

📍November 29th marks the final day of the first edition of the Basement Art Assembly Biennial (BAAB), Issue 00. 🔚✅👋 
The event will be enlivened by the coming and going of artists, talks, screenings, DJ sets, karaoke, drinks, and an all-day kitchen – culminating in a social dinner, where artists will be invited to participate in food preparation. Artists will also document the day through short footage of random moving images. FOCUS 🔎 Times Bar 🍸🍷🍺 Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff Now located in the underground spaces of Basement Roma, as a device central to the Basement Art Assembly Biennial (BAAB) Issue 00, the original Times Bar was opened in 2011 by Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff, from the Cooper Union University in New York, along with Lindsay Lawson, after their moving to Berlin. The bar was shut down in 2014. Focus Davide Balula @davide_balula • On the occasion of BAAB, Davide Balula offers a cocktail pulled from his Cocktail Series, made from wild plants locally gathered and fermented: chicory, valerian, fennel, fig.
