U-Haul Art Fair
September 25 - 27th
11 am - 6 pm

W 22nd St in Chelsea
between 10th and 11th Avenues, by the High Line.

This year will be the third recurrent U-Haul Art Fair in New York City. An exciting switch up to the typical gallery art fair where each booth is a modified UHaul truck and customized by each curator. The result is akin to a block party for artists, curators, and art enthusiasts. Unlike most art fairs, this one is both fun and serious- while being entirely free.

Here is a little sneak peak into what to expect at our booth: for this year’s U-Haul Art Fair, we asked our artists to create new work in response to a simple prompt, “Something Red-not overbearingly red, yet it draws the spotlight.”

The purpose of this exhibition of new artwork by our artists, revolving around this loose yetidentifiable prompt, is to highlight the unique qualities of each artist’s practice and methodology. Each work is measured at 16 x 12 inches, and is meant to be not only a fun exploration of different materials, mediums, and concepts across our 16 artists, but also an affordable introduction to anyone interested in supporting emerging artists. Works are available for purchase on site, packed, and ready to take home with you right then and there, no worrying about shipping! However, shipping is always an option if you are in the midst of hitting all the fairs in town.

Attention Seeking Behavior features the work of Natalie Conway, Kelly Elkowitz, Jeffery Heiman, Andrea Lee Manning, Sylvie Mayer, Luke Morrison, Young One, Miranda Pikul, Kelsey Renko, Hannah Stoll, Ali Sutton, Eden Taff, Eleanor Mahin Thorp, Scott Vander Veen, Ellen Weitkamp, and Jam Yoo. taken in New York City by @01.drawing

Iphone flashed pictures

The photos were meant to show the work from various angles, but the images captured through them seem to have become a different experience itself. I am continually thinking about artwork photography not as a tool to properly convey the work, but as another artwork with a shifted context, where the materiality of the photograph stands out, trapping three-dimensional form and time. by @01.drawing

I still don’t know what they are yet, but it felt like drawing in space. For the most part, they are weeping and wounded. Even so, they hold onto each other, connected. by @01.drawing

Farm fair at Dorchester, curated by dear @c0penger

✶✶
I walked this place in different weather, from day to night and across all four seasons. The moments remained in thousands of photographs, and I began to transform them back into tactile material.

I weave these images with hand drawings and the Photos and Maps interfaces of the phone in my hand, which are part of how I encounter memories now. Wood shaped like eyes is cut into interlocking puzzle forms, then sanded, painted, engraved, sanded, and painted again, like taming the wood and caring for memories.

These works have been translated and retranslated from nature onto the retina, into pixels and vectors, and then back into fabricated wood through the labor of hands and machines. In the viewers’ wandering gaze, past walks, present touch, and future weathering meet on their surfaces.
