New BQ: Young One 📷

Young One @01.drawing joined us at Bunker earlier this summer and we wish she could stay forever! Her multifaceted practice and ever-evolving studio installation enchanted us all ✨ Young one’s practice unfolds as an ongoing dialogue between her body and the world, spanning painting, drawing, photography, and spatial installation. Walking is central to her work as both metaphor and embodied practice. She invites materials from the time and place she inhabits into the work as collaborators, from organic and industrial fragments to wood chunks and translucent fabric. Layering, sanding, and sustained care allow her to synthesize others’ traces and machine logic with her own visual decisions and labor, revealing the surface as a site where countless overlapping times converge in the now. Keep up with Young One on her page @01.drawing - we can’t wait to see what she does next 🩵

Join us at both SPRING/BREAK Art Show and U-Haul Art Fair this September! We have two booths highlighting work by exceptional emerging artists. Each booth takes an entirely different approach, but always with an eye to experimentation.

You can see Indoor Games (It’s Raining Outside) at SPRING/BREAK Art Show opening September 23 - 28th, find tickets in our bio! And come visit U-Haul Art Fair to see Attention Seeking Behavior for free from September 25-27 in Chelsea.

We will have a blast and can’t wait to have you all see the incredible work our artists have been busy making! You can learn more about these exhibitions, our artists, and our mission on our website. Don’t be shy, feel free to DM or email us for early access and join our newsletter to keep up to date on the latest announcements.

Fresh off the most exciting, exhausting month of my life.

Endless thanks to Lucia, Phyllis, and Jessie for making @bunkerprojects such a great place.
Thanks to @jacqgroves @01.drawing and @art_okyoung for being such engaging, vibrant co-residents.
Thanks to Kohl, Fraser, and Alice—my SUV angels—for all the help moving.
Thanks to everyone who engaged earnestly with the work in studio visits, conversations, and open studios—too many to list.
Thanks to the one stranger who was oddly upset that i wouldn’t sell the blister packs yet.
Thanks to the many objects that find their way into my life.

Much official documentation to follow 🙂‍↕️😘

Pittsburgh! Open studio tomorrow at Bunker Projects, where I am currently doing a residency. Stop by anytime between 6 and 9 PM. 💕

Ive been working on making these experimental zine-sculptures that weave together different writings by three AMAZING women: Seunga @a__uoy, Kyunghee @kyungheewrites, and myself (😋)

It is a baby and/or future self called Our Mirae (미래, “future” in Korean) that is awaiting being hatched, held, read, unfolding, and living on/beyond your skin. The work will be shown soon in Korea as part of an upcoming exhibition at Platform-L @platforml.official around late August. Stay tuned! 💋😻 and actually, get your ticket to come and meet them 👶🤱

Big shout-out to my artist colleagues in residence: @01.drawing for the beautiful pics and @entered_to_win for a thoughtful conversation about its English translation. also @phy.seungmok for feeding us 👻🫶

🎢 August First Friday at Bunker Projects 🫍
New Exhibition & Open Studios

Join us this Friday from 6-9 for the opening reception of @locxhuynh solo exhibition Fiberglass Dreams, Steel Nightmares. This exhibition is an exploration of the bewildering forces that have shaped a collective nostalgia for theme parks. Using his own personal family archives as a means of investigating these ideas, Huynh’s paintings shift between the playful innocence of specific memories and the contaminated environments they exist in.

Our resident studios will also be open from 6-9pm! Come meet our *THREE* August residents @art_okyoung @entered_to_win and @01.drawing and see what they’ve been up to during their time at Bunker ☀️

We have lots in store for you - See you on Friday! ✌️

I put off making this post cause then it really would be the end. Sadly though the stage has been walked and the majority of the studio stuff schlepped back to CT with the wonderful help of my father. So I think I have to admit the end of this wonderful adventure.

I came to BU not knowing what to expect and was blessed to find a community as obsessed with the simple joy of painting as I am. From movie nights, to beach days, to journeys to NYC, to just slow days in the studio we filled 2 glorious years with great insights, good food, and many many many giggles.

I’m so grateful for all of the extremely talented and kind hearted professors that I got to learn from while at BU. Some only for one semester, some for the whole 2 years, but all of them shaped my practice in at least some small way. Thank you so much for being patient with me about all the things I was very stubborn about, for no reason.

Lastly, infinite thanks and love to my amazing cohort. There was always someone willing to help, offer knowledge, or a hug. Thank you for allowing me to take silly pictures of you, fatten you up on large amounts of baked goods, and for being some of the best studio neighbors a girl could ask for.

I guess stay tuned for what comes next? Your guess is as good as mine about what it will be…
