The Story, Act IV: Leadership to Legacy.

It started before they knew. It grew in the village. They told you, “We got next.”

Now they’re standing at the podium. Wearing the purple. Reaching back for the next young man still waiting at the end of the road.

That’s what leadership looks like when it becomes legacy. It doesn’t stop with you. You pass it on.

Don't count the days, make the days count. ⏱️

Muhammad Ali's words are a mindset we build into every young man at 100 Strong. It's not about waiting for the right moment to show up, it's about showing up today, putting in the work today, and making today mean something.

That's what discipline looks like. That's what leadership looks like.

"Do everything with purpose." 🎓

That's the key lesson one of our young men carries with him from his time at 100 Strong. Growing up comes with barriers nobody warns you about, but he's chosen to let those barriers sharpen his belief in himself rather than shrink it.

That's the model we hope every young man in our program walks away with: intention, belief, and the discipline to keep building even when it's hard.

"I am strong. We are stronger. We are Strong Academy." 🎓✊🏾

This young man talks about what the program gave him: safety, resources, and a sense of connection with other Black boys across the city who understand exactly what he's building toward. Opportunity like this doesn't come around twice, and he knows it.

That's what unity looks like in action. That's what 100 Strong is built to create.

From the track to the hardwood to the lawn where our young men stood together, fists raised. 🎓✊🏾

This is The Story. A thread running from the legends who came before to the young men building their own legacy right now, across Peel, Toronto, and Durham.

Excellence was never just talent. It was preparation, discipline, and a village willing to show up. That's what 100 Strong builds, one young man at a time.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. 🌟

Long before a young man becomes a leader, he has to believe he's allowed to dream in the first place. That's where we come in.

At 100 Strong, we're not just teaching our young men what's possible, we're showing them that they are the dreamers this quote is talking about. The next generation of leaders starts with the belief that they belong in the room.

"It made me realize what it means to be a Black person." 🎓✊🏾

For this Strong Academy participant, the program was more than mentorship. It was a mirror. It helped him see his skin color, his history, and his story as something to stand in, not something to explain away.

That's the work happening at 100 Strong: building young men who walk into every room prepared, grounded, and proud of exactly who they are.

It was a pleasure to photograph the 100 Strong Foundation’s Legacy to Leadership Gala this year and an honour to be back for a second year.

100 Strong creates mentorship and opportunities for young Black boys, helping them see what’s possible for their futures. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support that work.

It takes more than one person.

100 Strong came out of a real need in our community. Too many of our sons weren't finishing high school. So a village decided to do something about it.

Parents sacrificed. Grandparents raised us on purpose, and for purpose.

"No longer me, but we."

This is the standard we hold our young men to at 100 Strong.

Every participant in our program, whether through Strong Academy, our Mentorship Program, or our S.T.E.M. Leadership Program, is learning that real success isn't handed to you. It's built through discipline, sacrifice, and the willingness to keep showing up when it would be easier not to.

We don't measure our impact by where a young man starts. We measure it by what he overcomes on the way to where he's going. by @100strongca

“Only you can define your capabilities. Not others.” 🎓

This is what Strong Academy gave one of our young men: the confidence to define himself on his own terms, and the clarity to chase a future he’s building toward himself, premed and on his way to becoming a doctor.

This is what happens when a young man is shown what’s possible before the world tries to tell him otherwise.
