Hello! Next week, 23rd and 24th of November, as part of Ffocus at Ffotogallery, Ross (@pure.premium_) and I (@alicedurham.photo) will be taking part in some Online Workshops!

We will be talking about our work and opening a general discussion. The workshops will run from 2pm till 4pm on the 22nd-24th of November, with different artists who are currently exhibiting at Ffotogallery in Cardiff as part of Ffocws discussing our work.

We had a great day @ffotogallery on Saturday meeting new friends and reconnecting with old. Thank you for having us! As far as first time's go, I think it went really well, so a huge thank you goes to all the people that approached our table, interacted, engaged and conversed about what we're doing and where we want to go!

Also a huge thank you to Tudor (@tudir) and @docphotusw (of course!) for the opportunity to talk all things photobooks. It was a great experience, and a fun one at that. One that has really put a spring in our step.

As you may or may not have noticed, we've been a little bit quiet over the last few months.

When we designed the @docphotusw graduation publication 'Packed Lunch', we had big plans post-grad to continue pushing with all things 103 that we had built over the past year. However, as seems customary nowadays, things didn't go quite as we had planned.

So here we are. A few months out from graduation and not completely sure when we'll be back to full capacity, but we are working on it. Working on sorting a new studio, a place we can all live together, working on new ideas, new projects and new publications.

Whilst we've been finding our feet, me, Sam (@samhunterphotography) and Alice (@alicedurham.photo) have been chatting with Brian (@offlinejournal) about what we do and why we do it for their latest issue, 'Community'. You can check it out and buy it at the link in our bio. Or, if you're so inclined, at @ffotogallery's Book Fair on Saturday 15th October, where we and a bunch of other brilliant creators (@nawrmag / @alienated.mag / @ipigeon_publishing) will be showing our work and chatting all things photobooks and @alejandroacin_ will be in conversation with @peter.finnemore!

We have been busy the past few weeks designing the graduation publication for @packed_lunch_exhibition / @docphotusw!

Featuring work from 26 graduating photographers from the Doc Phot class of 22, including all five of us, and lots of our extremely talented friends. We're super proud to be able to put this together for this remarkable group of people and a remarkable course.

The book, edition of 500, is 116 pages, 172x240mm, four colour offset on 250gsm uncoated cover and 150gsm uncoated inner pages. More pics to come when we get the physicals back!!!

Printed by @mixamprint in the UK and published by 103 Books in collaboration with @docphotusw.

All of the sales from pre-orders will act as a contribution to the grad show in St David's 2 from the 10th to the 17th June! We will also be selling books during the week! We have a handful of copies of 103№2 - 'Eat, Fight, Fuck and Die' by Steve Bell (@masteoneseven) left and available to buy on the website at a reduced price of £10. There also a number of A3 and A4 prints, on premium 220gsm matte natural cotton rag, from the book, available. (link in bio).

The are all handmade so all slightly differ! Consisting of 20 photographs, 30 pages, 260mm x 180mm, self-inkjet-printed on 150gsm Munken Lynx Rough, handbound with Gmund Leather 300gsm textured softcover and 116gsm Takeo Tant Select endpapers.

'Eat, Fight, Fuck and Die' considers the human experience within a capitalistic society and proposes that all life can be explained by systems of consumption, greed, desire, and lust. In navigating the urban world, the body of work is a loosely connected series of encounters with cityscapes and nightlife, whilst simultaneously weaving a parallel with the lives of feral animals, specifically the gull, the new urban pest.

The work questions to what extent humans are different to gulls through a series of observations and metaphors. It considers the relationship I have with capitalism, my desires, and my understanding of the world around me.

We see ourselves as a superior species, but when you take away the ties of our consumerism and our greed, what are we reduced to? Nothing more than the ability to eat, fight, fuck, and inevitably die. by @103books

In the last four years, Reid has been skating in Cardiff, taking pictures, drinking beers, and having a good old time. This new chapter of Allen’s day-to-day picks up where ‘Lords of Bute Town’, his debut zine, left off in 2017. These photographs, alongside artwork by Cardiff based artists Phil Morgan, Lee ‘Beef’ Bennett and Lloyd Houston, paint a portrait of skate culture in Cardiff city, both on and off the board.

Edition of 100, 86 pages, 74 photographs, 4 illustrations.

We’re really proud to be able to announce the release of 103№3 - ‘Lords of Bute Town II’ by Reid Allen!

It’s been so nice working on the second zine by Reid that documents the Cardiff skate community over the past few months and we are very happy with the way it has turned out.

A photo from 'Eat, Fight, Fuck and Die', our second publication from this year.

As 3/5 of 103 are recovering from covid we are calling an end to 2021 for 103 Books with fuzzy brains and high hopes for 2022. This year has been so positive for us, having started up in February, to be able to produce and distribute photography books to people is an amazing feeling and next year we will push ourselves even further.

We have plenty of new publications in the works which we will hopefully juggle alongside graduation as the weather gets nicer, but for now, we still have copies of Sam's book Graphein and my book EFFD which you can buy on our website, along with loads of prints from EFFD. All orders will be posted AFTER new years!

Thank you so much once again to everybody who has bought a book, liked an Instagram post or simply spoken with us about books and pictures this year. It'll never not be heartwarming. Until 2022, have a lovely festive season, stay safe, we'll see you on the other side with some spicy announcements 😉

Absolute pleasure to have our work up on display @tactilebosch for @pallet.cardiff ! A huge thanks to everyone who came through last night. The space is open 10-6 today and tomorrow! Come get your mum a christmas pressie and have a look at some wonderful pieces from local artists!

Also @samhunterphotography book is finally finished and will be shipped out at the beginning of next week!
