Prof. Dr. Ana Amador, investigates this question at the intersection of physics, biology, and neuroscience.

Her research integrates biomechanics, neurophysiology, peripheral system physiology, and nonlinear dynamics to understand how songbirds control vocal production. She investigates how behavioral information is represented along motor pathways and encoded in the activity of individual neurons.

Her research also explores mechanisms of frequency modulation shared by songbirds and humans, offering insights into vocal control and sound production.

In 2013, her paper “Elemental gesture dynamics are encoded by song premotor cortical neurons,” published in Nature, was selected as one of Nature’s 2013 Editor’s Selections. Her work has also appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Neuroscience and Chaos.

By combining physics and neuroscience, Ana Amador reveals how nonlinear dynamics and neural activity shape biological behavior, demonstrating how birdsong can help us understand fundamental principles of motor control and communication.
