The witches’ character from “The Master and Margarita” by @emmaduerden_ @jadamaehuang and @nicole_decsey

Emma is a versatile dancer, performer, and teacher with 19 years of training across styles including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, ballroom and Latin. She is a graduate of the Dance Performance Program at Centennial College, where she performed in Resolve and Last Dance. Her credits also include Wake Me Up with Movement Collective, the Electric Chair music video by Chlorine, and the Kylie Thompson Intensive showcase. With five years of teaching experience, she is passionate about creating supportive spaces that build both confidence and technique.

Nicole Decsey McVicar is the artistic director of Nicole Decsey Dance Projects and is an emerging choreographer, artistic director, arts critic, rehearsal director, performer, and dance instructor with a BFA in performance dance from Toronto Metropolitan University. Nicole is an industry leader and innovator, one who strives to create supportive and non-traditional dance environments to open doors in dance spaces to those previously unwelcome.

Jada is a versatile dancer with over 16 years of training in contemporary, hip hop, jazz, acro, tap, and ballet. A graduate of Centennial College’s Performing Arts Fundamentals and Dance Performance programs, she has performed in productions such as Resolve and Last Dance, as well as numerous competitions and showcases across Ontario. Jada is a multiple award recipient, earning recognition for her dynamic movement quality and standout stage presence.

Zheztırnaq is the first character of Kazakh mythology that appears. Appearing as a beautiful woman, her true form is that of a forest spirit.

Beautiful and seductive, Zheztırnaqs have long copper claws and lure hunters deep into the forest so they can deal with them cruelly.

Contrary to this, when Margarita finds herself at the Witches’ Sabbath the Zheztırnaqs gladly accept her into their ranks.

Woland's character in Master & Margarita by @becca_partington

Becca Partington grew up in community theatre with a strong love of musicals and contemporary dance. As an adult, most of her time is spent teaching future social service workers at Durham College and when not, she loves to embark upon backyard choreography.

In recent years Becca has co-created pieces for Peterborough’s Public Energy Emergency series focusing on mental health and the role of caregiving. She was also fortunate to work under Montreal choreographer Emmanuel Jouthe in a production of Danse Carpe Diem.

At present, Becca actively seeks thoughtful, meaningful creative outlets and performance opportunities that keep her inspired and connected to a community of dance.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am Woland!

I’m part of the force which eternally wants evil, but accomplishes good. I possess, ahem, a certain magical power. But do not confuse me with Him-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. We sometimes communicate with Him, but we are still different entities.

The company I keep is interesting; a retinue, some may call it.
They are my selected demons with both loyalty and a sense of humor. Along with beauty, of course. Where would we be in this world without beauty?

I have a small offer for Margarita, the most beautiful of earthly women. Or rather, she has one for me. I can fulfill one of her delicate requests concerning a certain Master… but the price she must pay? We shall see.

I invite you all to my ball, where my servants prepare with special diligence. I anticipate it will be quite an unusual celebration, magnificent even.

I await your presence. Come

Azazello’s character by @marisa.dlin

Marisa Dlin is a dedicated and versatile performer with 18 years of dance experience. Recently graduated from the Dance Performance Program at Centennial College, Marisa continued her dance journey with the ProArteDanza and Kylie Thompson summer intensive. Alongside her dance training, she is actively pursuing vocal studies, and strengthening her skills as a well-rounded artist and performer. Her adaptability and expansive repertoire provides a variety of expressive range within her performance. She strives for excellence and is a force to look out for.

Well, hello humans. Be not afraid of my greeting, I am Azazello. A cold and ruthless demon from Woland’s retinue. My task is to rid the world of those whose time has come.

Do not think I am cruel. I am just and fair, as is my Master. I do not have fear or shame. I am a knight. Once, I taught men to make mirrors and swords, and women to paint their faces, to adorn themselves with precious stones.

Tell me, have my gifts not been useful?
At Woland’s ball, I will be irresistible.

Koroviev’s character by @annie.spence7

Annie is a multi-disciplinary artist who combines theatre, costume design, dance, circus training, music creation, and writing in all of their choreography. They have been nominated for best choreography at the Montreal fringe festival and best production at on the edge film festival in North Bay. With a BFA in Dance Choreography from York University, Annie has performed with the York Dance Ensemble and has presented their work in the Bloom (2024) and the emerging voices creators lab.

The right-hand man of Woland, our story’s most powerful demon: Korovyev!!

An obsequious servant, he’s always ready to appease his master’s every whim.
It is Korovyev who arranges all of Woland’s affairs, never shying from dirty work. He embodies the cunning, and yet attractive side of evil.

Initially, Korovyev presents the facade of a polite and witty interlocutor. But beware!
Those who find themselves crossing his path quickly realize he is not to be trifled with. He is both a master of persuasion and confusion.
In our performance, he takes on the role of the Master of Ceremonies, organizing the luxurious yet terrifying ball of the underworld.

Come to our dance interpretation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s iconic novel Master and Margarita, and enjoy the beauty and elegance of our ball!
