Woland's character in Master & Margarita by @becca_partington Becca Partington grew up in community theatre with a strong love of musicals and contemporary dance. As an adult, most of her time is spent teaching future social service workers at Durham College and when not, she loves to embark upon backyard choreography. In recent years Becca has co-created pieces for Peterborough’s Public Energy Emergency series focusing on mental health and the role of caregiving. She was also fortunate to work under Montreal choreographer Emmanuel Jouthe in a production of Danse Carpe Diem. At present, Becca actively seeks thoughtful, meaningful creative outlets and performance opportunities that keep her inspired and connected to a community of dance. Closing show, your last chance to see Master and Margarita: Saturday, July 18, 8 pm - at Fairview Library Theatre Ladies and gentlemen, I am Woland! I’m part of the force which eternally wants evil, but accomplishes good. I possess, ahem, a certain magical power. But do not confuse me with Him-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. We sometimes communicate with Him, but we are still different entities. The company I keep is interesting; a retinue, some may call it. They are my selected demons with both loyalty and a sense of humor. Along with beauty, of course. Where would we be in this world without beauty? I have a small offer for Margarita, the most beautiful of earthly women. Or rather, she has one for me. I can fulfill one of her delicate requests concerning a certain Master… but the price she must pay? We shall see. I invite you all to my ball, where my servants prepare with special diligence. I anticipate it will be quite an unusual celebration, magnificent even. I await your presence. Come Illustration by @111___chiu Visual Art director: @polinaradart Last photo by @alexeimalakhov

His internal organs are visible through his armpits. He does not like hunters, and leads them deep into the forest to die without harming nature. Can you guess which ancient language my name comes from? In Monsieur Woland’s service, I work as an errand cat. What kind of black magician doesn’t have a black cat? In this motley retinue, I am the most cultured, the most intelligent, the most refined, and, of course, the most modest in calming the discontented. If you disagree, I can easily scratch your face and tear off your head. You hardly need it anyway. I am an ancient and untouchable creature. My back is fire, my breath is pure spirit and I breathe wherever I please. Yes, my sense of humor is impeccable. Only the Master may touch me. And, unfortunately, only he can truly appreciate the sharpness of my wit. For everyone else, there is the sharpness of my claws. At the ball, I will serve Margarita for all eternity. Well, until I get bored. Meow! Illustration by @111___chiu Visual Art director: @polinarad Last photo by @alexeimalakhov

When you take on a project as ambitious as The Master and Margarita, you quickly realize it cannot be done alone. A core creative team comes together: people who pour an extraordinary amount of time, effort, heart, and energy into the vision. Then, more artists join in, the cast, dramaturge, designers, production team, artist mentors. Then the idea itself begins to draw a universe toward it: people who are not necessarity part of the team, but choose to support the project just the same: our generous sponsor @annamak_investments_insurance Anna.Makaryan.Financial , the incredible guest artists performing in the lobby @avechoir and @emilk_music, the venue staff who quietly save the day behind the scenes, and the friends who offer encouragement during the hardest moments. The truth is: bringing a production of this scale to reality requires immense sacrifice, and most ideas never make it past the imagination. Don't miss out our next shows: Saturday, July 4, 8 pm - Winchester Street Theatre Sunday, July 5, 5:30 pm - Winchester Street Theatre Saturday, July 11, 6:30 pm - Winchester Street Theatre Sunday, July 12, 5:30 pm - Winchester Street Theatre Saturday, July 18, 8 pm - at Fairview Library Theatre I stand at the center of this beautiful whirlwind, deeply humbled. Your collective energy and wholehearted belief give me wings. My deepest gratitude goes to every single person who believed in this journey and made this production possible.

The Master character in Master & Margarita by Josh St. John Two shows this weekend July 4-5! Joshua St. John is an alumnae of the Canada’s National Ballet School whose extensive credits include Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things, Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon, and the Cirque du Soleil talent roster. Inspired by his sister to never give up on his passion, he has forged a versatile career specializing in classical, contemporary, and high-level acrobatic performance. Today, Joshua channels that same artistic resilience into teaching, discovering a profound new connection to dance that transforms and fulfills him in ways performing never could. Master: If you can hear me, then hello. If not, do not worry: I am used to talking to myself in solitude. My name is the Master, and I am a writer. To be a writer means I am doomed to loneliness, because no one wants to hear the truth. And my work consists precisely in writing it. At the moment I watch as my greatest creation – my novel – burns before me. Its white pages darkening and crumbling as they swirl around the room. It’s my own doing. I burned it myself. I can no longer communicate with these false literati, these lying critics. I have no hope anymore. What else can I say? I love Margarita and it is her love that remains the only reason I remain in this world. Farewell. Illustration by Evelyn Chiu Visual Arts Director: Polina Rad
