On Friday 4th September, 1853 Studios is thrilled to host the spectacular debut art exhibition from the creative powerhouse behind Keith Lemon and Avid Merrion the one, the only, @leighfrancis !

For over two decades, he’s had the nation in stitches on our TV screens. From the cult classic chaos of Bo’ Selecta! to the multi award-winning madness of Celebrity Juice, Leigh’s unique comic mind is legendary. But what happens when the cameras stop rolling?

'Naked and the Civil Servant'
with studio artist Wayne Smith

Launching: Fri 16th Oct 6 - 9pm in Mill 2

A collection of original drawings in a variety of mediums. An exciting opportunity to see a body of work not shown before as an individual show.

Location: Mill 2, Waddington street, Oldham, OL9 6QQ
Entrance: via the car park towards the silver gates and see the studio sign and accessible ramp.

The show runs for 2 weeks with 2nd October 6:00pm - 8:30pm being the launch night! We would love to see as many of your lovely faces as possible!

What a wonderful end to @dipactmcr whose exhibition started with no end in sight. A community led set of workshops across Manchester and Greater Manchester to work with artists exploring identity, displacement and lived experience. Dipacts support have given the artists a chance to explore mediums and push themselves past their own boundaries to develop something new.

Whilst it has come to an end here at @1853studios it will now move on to @bridge5mill , so there are still chances to view it!

✨ And that’s a wrap at @1853studios .

After weeks of workshops, conversations, making, sharing and bringing so many different artistic practices together, our first Global Roots Canvas exhibition in Oldham has now come to an end.

What a journey this has been.

Five artists.
24 workshops across Manchester and Greater Manchester.
Hundreds of participants and visitors.
So many stories, memories, materials, conversations and creative moments.

A huge thank you to @1853studios for welcoming us and giving the work space to breathe, grow and be experienced. Thank you to our incredible artists, participants, volunteers, visitors, partners, communities and everyone who has been part of this chapter.

Global Roots Canvas became exactly what we hoped it could be — not just an exhibition, but a shared canvas shaped by many people.

And now… we move to @bridge5mill , 5th - 16th Oct Manchester. (Private Launch 3rd October)

We’re so excited for the next chapter and to see how the work transforms again in a new space.

Different roots. Different stories. One shared canvas.

We couldn’t make it happen without @aceagrams

AWOL Studios Open Day returns on Saturday 10th October, 1–7pm at Hope Mill, Ancoats.

Now in its 19th year, Open Studios is a chance to explore the creative community at AWOL, meet our artists and creatives, and discover the incredible range of practices happening across the building.

Visitors can explore studios across five floors, with work spanning fine art, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, photography, filmmaking and more.

📢 SHORT NOTICE EXHIBITION! 📢

IIm so thrilled to announce that I'm going to show my artworks at Cass Art Manchester!

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, but totally worth it. I couldn't have made it without the support of @cassart1984 and the people down at @1853studios . Thank you very very much!

With "The Bittersweet in Between" I'm bringing works made between 2019 and 2026, which explore the necessary imperfection of reality and the melancholy that comes with it.

Through this exhibition I wish to share my thoughts about imperfection, loss and change — not as exceptions to reality, but as part of what makes it beautiful.

Looking forward to see you there!
