Flow, flair & fun times at our Final Rehearsal! 🥁Beautifully captured by @vikki_marie_page

One big gathering of London & Hastings Dendê drummers led by @mac_dende , dancers & singers alongside our special guests @reggaechoir led by Fola Philip, with @paimmarivaldo , @alehsoul & @bea_shantifa_music adding their voices, rhythms & presence to the day.

Our dance sections came together through the work of @hawahsambafro , @rosariagracia & @adrianooliveiradanza , alongside the energy of the kids and our invited groups: @oya_batucada @sambasisterscollective @northsomersetsamba @community_drumming & @batukatabatucada joining us all the way from Spain.

Different groups, generations, cities, rhythms & styles sharing the same space,
rehearsing, exchanging, reconnecting and having plenty of fun before taking it all onto the streets of @nhcarnivalldn .

A proper Dendê gathering before Carnival. 🌻🥁

More shots from @vikki_marie_page because one carousel was never going to be enough 📸🌻

So many faces that made Ijó Ìdílé – Rooted & Rising what it was on the road this year.

Dancers, drummers, singers, families, crew, stewards, old friends & new ones, all bringing their own energy to Dendê Nation.

Still finding moments we hadn’t properly seen in the middle of all that Carnival madness.

From stage to rehearsal room to the streets of @nhcarnivalldn . ❤️💛💚

A showreel by @versionmusictv capturing Ijó Ìdílé – Rooted & Rising across three key moments: our Pre-Carnival Night at @thefoxandfirkin , the final rehearsal with the full company, and the parade at Notting Hill Carnival 2026.

Rooted in community, the project brought together @mac_dende @paimmarivaldo , @reggaechoir , singers @bea_shantifa_music @alehsoul , choreographers @hawahsambafro @adrianooliveiradanza @rosariagracia guest groups @oya_batucada @someoneatthedoorsamba @northsomersetsamba @community_drumming @sambasisterscollective @batukatabatucada , children and dancers from across the UK and beyond. Through a special collaboration of voices, movement and rhythm, months of shared preparation came alive in performance.

The result: Dendê Nation took 1st place in the Brazilian Bands category at Notting Hill Carnival 2026, following our win in 2025. 🏆🥁

Thanks to @version_musictv & team @ian_mann_films_stuff @brucebasudde @shotbyshadrach for documenting the journey from rehearsal room to road.

Carnival is what happens on the road, everything that holds it together in many energy levels!

Artists performing, participants bringing the energy, stewards caring for the flow of the parade, each of us part of Dendê’s offering garden, like the sunflowers carried throughout our parade: flowers that turn towards the light, invite the bees, and evoke Oxum, abundance & the fertility of creativity under the blessings of our ancestors!

Different roles, generations, practices and energies growing together, each contributing something essential to what we brought to the streets of @nhcarnivalldn .

A celebration of everyone who contributed their time, talent, care & presence to the road.
Thank you for being part of it.

Two weeks later and we’re still vibing from this collaboration with @reggaechoir ! 🔥

Stalag — from Ring the Alarm and Bam Bam to a final homage to Badauê by @blocoileaiye was sung, played & danced with our hearts out at @nhcarnivalldn .

Bahia, Jamaica & London meeting through reggae, samba-reggae, voices, drums & movement, with generations coming together in one shared experience, just beyond wonderful from start of our group with the wonderful lorry float by @musical_touch_sound_system

Thank you to everyone who made this collaboration possible and, above all, for the beautiful intergenerational exchange of joy, knowledge, culture & energy that filled the streets of Notting Hill.

“That is why Black people fought, and though envied, became celebrated. @blocoileaiye , you are the lord of this great nation, and today Black people ask for your blessing.”

For three minutes, we immerse ourselves in “Negrume da Noite”, an Ilê Aiyê classic that pays homage to Oxóssi, the hunter, and carries the unmistakable beats and legacy of Ilê.

Dendê drummers, our music directors @mac_dende special guest @paimmarivaldo and great assistance of @stella_kia_ , the beautiful agbe section by @ursula.tuca.milan and our guest groups unite in rhythm, while the soulful voices of @alehsoul and @bea_shantifa_music carry the chant through the streets of @nhcarnivalldn, Bahia in dialogue with London, through music, movement and collective celebration.

A powerful moment of our parade, honouring the roots that continue to shape samba-reggae and bringing different groups and generations together through the same beat.

Okê Arô, Oxóssi! 🏹🌿 Axé!

Team work makes the dream work!

From the many we become one.
@mac_dende here! I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation of all involved with Dendê’s theme this year Ijó Ìdílé - Rooted and rising.

From the delicious full fat beats, flavoured with vocals from @reggaechoir , @bea_shantifa_music and @alehsoul , garnished with dancing from AKOWMI @hawahsambafro , @rosariagracia , and @adrianooliveiradanza , all wrapped in costumes from repurposed materials by @sustentacarnaval through the hands of @pa.u.lu and @marianarpinho .

From my mind, via the mentorship of @paimmarivaldo, asssitance and support from @stella_kia_ and addition of an agbe section through the talented @ursula.tuca.milan to the production of @gandaiaorg . All of our partners, children, groups and individuals came together to make magic on the streets of Notting Hill Carnival. Fantastic!

Each group that poured their energy into our project, @oya_batucada @dakadoumsamba @community_drumming @sambasisterscollective @northsomersetsamba @someoneatthedoorsamba @batukatabatucada , as we share & exchange the same passion for the Afro Brazilian movement!

Immense gratitude for the support of @aceagrams @bigyellowselfstorage and @blk_butterfly as we continue to grow! Plus the amazing design of @ivihribeiro that encapsulates our ethos and colors.

Cheers to @brixton.village @pergolabrixton for the ongoing collaboration and @thefoxandfirkin for hosting our pre carnival night!
To each member of our media team @vikki_marie_page , @version_musictv , Sherina, @petulajojosambista … to each steward, parent and the drivers from both support van and our 1st ever parade with a fully equipped lorry by @musical_touch_sound_system !

A big thank you to NHC Ltd and all of the sound systems, Mas bands, Steel bands, Brazilian bands, traders and the public for respectfully making the 60th anniversary of @nhcarnivalldn so joyful and memorable without forgetting the roots of this carnival.

One week ago, the streets were full, the drums were sounding and we were just setting off for another unforgettable @nhcarnivalldn . 🥁

At the very start of our parade, we passed two billboards paying homage to Claudia Jones and Kelso Cochrane, a powerful reminder of the history of Black British resistance surrounding the roots of Carnival as we entered a day celebrating its 60 years of existence & resistance.

Later, on Ladbroke Grove, we reached the final stretch with everyone together, drummers, dancers, @reggaechoir , singers, children, families, guest groups & crew, dancing, playing and singing in one continuous chain of energy.

One week later, we are still taking in the scale, joy and collective energy of everything we experienced together.

Thank you to every person who walked this road with us, everyone who played, danced, sang, stewarded, created, supported, travelled to join us, brought their families and shared their energy along the way. And thank you to everyone who met us on the streets, danced beside us, cheered us on and made us feel so welcome.

It takes so many hands, hearts and hours to bring Dendê to Carnival, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who made this journey ours.
