“Money2Me” w/ @mickjenkins
Out Now!

Produced by: @1paprob and @grimbeats_
Mixed & Mastered by: @smokeylonely
Artwork by: @don0rphan

Grateful doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about getting to work on a song with Mick. His music and beat selection have been shaping my taste and inspiring my sound since high school.

Thank you to Mick for being so genuine, collaborative, and down to earth…qualities that can be hard to find in this industry. Who would’ve thought my love for Pokémon cards would open the door to working with such a respectable artist (I’ll tell that story soon 👀).

Also, shout out to @iammarcusharvey on the release of “Come to Me” featuring Mick today. Go run that up too!

If you check out “Money2Me,” let me know your favorite part. Much love to everyone who’s been supporting this release. 🫶🏼 by @1paprob

A lot of people have asked how “Money2Me” with Mick Jenkins came to fruition, so here’s the story...

Growing up, I was obsessed with collecting Pokémon cards. When I eventually stopped collecting, I gave my entire collection to my younger cousin, who was just getting into the hobby. Years later I saw Mick posting about Pokémon cards on his Instagram story. On a whim, I asked what cards he was looking for, and to my surprise, he actually responded and told me he was searching for Gold Star cards. I immediately texted my cousin to see if our old collection had any, and sure enough, we had a Gold Star Jolteon. Since my cousin had stopped collecting too, he was happy to send me the card. At first, Mick offered to trade me one of his rare cards for the Jolteon, but I instead asked if he’d be down to trade the Jolteon and a few others cards for a song…he was about it. That trade turned into a session, and that session turned into “Money2Me.”

I’m incredibly grateful that Mick was so down to earth and willing to make that trade happen. It’s one of those moments that reminds me you never know where opportunities will come from. I definitely never imagined that Pokémon cards would end up opening a door for me in the music industry.

Huge shoutout to @wiilharris for holding onto the collection all these years and thank you to everyone who’s been showing love to “Money2Me.” This record means even more to me because of the story behind it. ❤️

I want to personally thank @don0rphan for creating such an amazing piece of art for the cover of “Money2Me”. The level of detail, the color palette and the overall style still amazes me. Dontay was very patient and helped bring a vague idea I had of someone with money coming out of their headphones to life. Having the local Chicago artist create cover art for Mick (another artist with Chicago roots) seemed only fitting. Please go show love to the rest of Dontay’s work and consider him for your next art commission!
