«Across these terrains — Lesotho, Lebanon, Bolivia, Kashmir, the Golan Heights, the UAE, and the other chronicles presented in the exhibition — we see winter sports not as Alpine or Scandinavian traditions only, but as globally mobile practices, continually transforming and acquiring new meanings across continents, cultures, and social classes. Their diffusion is neither linear nor uniform: at times it takes the form of mimicry, at others cultural hybridisation, and elsewhere acts of reclamation or reparation. In certain contexts, the mountain becomes more than a site of leisure or sport — it is a stage upon which gendered, religious, or other identitarian forms of resistance and emancipation are asserted. Here, winter sports manifest not only as geographically mobile, but continually renegotiated through questions of visibility, inclusion, and representation, taking shape in ways as diverse as the latitudes they span.»

Extract from “Winters Elsewhere”, a curatorial exploration of the “microhistories of snow” and how they can reshape our understanding of winter cultures, written by @eri.pet for the 7th issue of @hardpackmagazine, edited by @zachseely.

Published months after the closing of the exhibition “Fuoripista. Art, Sport and Winter” hosted at @gres_art_671, the text explores the “unbeaten” territories of winter sports — but are they really? — with a view to broadening their cultural and emotional horizon.

@2050.plus has designed the set up and scenography for “She Flickered In and Out of History”, a new video and mixed-media installation by interdisciplinary artist @elisagiardinapapa, now on view at @icalondon.

•

“She Flickered In and Out of History” tells the story of a Mediterranean island that emerged from the sea, sparked a colonial scramble, and vanished before anyone could claim it. Conceived in close dialogue with Elisa Giardina Papa, the scenography by 2050+ extends the film into the exhibition space, translating its atmospheres and material qualities into a physical environment.

A modular platform of black rubber tiles anchors the room, functioning at once as a viewing device and as an abstract topography. Its fragmented geometry echoes the unstable outline of the ephemeral volcanic island at the heart of the work. Both familiar and geological, the textured surface recalls cooled lava and volcanic sediment, suggesting a landscape suspended between emergence and disappearance.
Low to the ground, a scattering of LED lights casts the gallery in a submerged orange tone; their cables left exposed trail across the floor like tendrils of some marine organism, or currents tracing invisible paths along a seabed. Blurring film, architecture, and geology, the space is shaped by uncertainty, transformation, and the continuous negotiation between land and sea.

Last July, @2050.plus was invited to take part in the summer workshop programme at @boisbuchet with “Scrap-Kammer: A Cabinet of Curiosities” — an architecture workshop exploring the reinvention of the 16th-century typology of the Kunstkammer.

•
Domaine de Boisbuchet is an international centre for design and architecture in southwest France, founded by Alexander von Vegesack, legendary design collector and founding director of the Vitra Design Museum.

Set across a 150-hectare estate, Boisbuchet encompasses an architectural park, residencies, and a long-running programme of workshops led by internationally recognised architects and designers. Over the years, the programme has welcomed figures including Ron Arad, Jasper Morrison, Shigeru Ban, Lina Ghotmeh and Álvaro Siza, among others.

•
For “Scrap-Kammer”, participants were invited to experiment with the residual matter of Domaine de Boisbuchet — scraps, errors, leftovers, tests, mock-ups, fragments and found objects generated through the ongoing activities of the Domaine. The workshop explored how these overlooked materials could be collected, reinterpreted and transformed into new forms of architectural curiosity. The same collection of materials was transformed into two contrasting installations: one a dream-like, suspended composition inspired by the kinetic movement of mobiles; the other organised vertically according to the specific weight of each object, understood both as physical mass and material value.

The “Scrap-Kammer” became both archive and device, memory and generator — a living index of collective experimentation at the Domaine.

This past September, Ginza Sony Park in Tokyo transformed into GU PARK, a project designed by @2050.plus for @gu_global.

•

For the release of his first collection as creative director of GU, Francesco Risso approached the brand as its own cinematic universe, conceiving of six distinct characters: Minimal, Classic, Sport, Utility, Cozy, and Playful.

Embracing the idea of multiplicity and nonconformity, 2050+ translated these six characters into corresponding set pieces, constructed by built elements, props, and the characters inhabiting them. The unique vignettes coexisted under the same roof, allowing actors and visitors to drift freely between them, crossing over imaginary fourth-walls. Over a 48-hour festival, GU PARK hosted unexpected encounters, try-on experiences, and sudden live music performances. Just like a theatrical machine, the sets operated under a fictional script narrating specific moments for each character: from intimate jam sessions in hotel lobbies, spontaneous pickleball matches at the sports club, impromptu DJ sets inside a laundromat, to tarot card readings at the funfair.

Impressions from “IMAGINARY PALACE,” a project conceived and designed by @2050.plus for @off____white “10x10: Icons Reimagined.”

•

The scenography by 2050+ took over Off-White’s Milan Showroom for a two-day event during Milan Fashion Week, where 10 distinct rooms encapsulated the creative visions of 10 global artists.

Each room becomes its own universe where products coexist with their references, and materials unfold as architectural forms – all connected through a central capsule. Playing with repetition, reflection, distortion, and a reconstruction of familiar materials, atmospheres get translated into an “IMAGINARY PALACE” that continually alters what is seen and reveals unexpected perspectives.

Happy to announce “IMAGINARY PALACE,” a project conceived and designed by @2050.plus for @off____white “10x10: Icons Reimagined.”

•

This year, Off-White has invited 10 global creatives to approach 10 of its most recognizable icons as starting points for personal interpretation, experimentation and intentional rebellion.

The 10 artists’ distinct visions are translated into a space that acts as blank canvas; a labyrinthic “IMAGINARY PALACE” where rooms become sequential fragments that repeat, connect, and lead to unexpected places. Defined only by the walls around it, each room holds its own universe: from ‘90s youth culture lived-in scenes to monolithic cave-like atmospheres. Materials become tools for expression just as abstract concepts become tangible architectures, creating spaces of reflection and experimentation. Openings, interruptions, layers, and materials frame objects and their references alike through new perspectives, inviting visitors to experience the work, and to enter the distinct creative universes behind it.

“IMAGINARY PALACE” is on view September 23-24, 2026, at Via Orobia 13, Milan.

Sneak peak from the upcoming video documentation of CANICULA, where 2050+ architects Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli e Francesca Lantieri expand upon the concept of the exhibition’s scenography

Developed in close relation with the content of the works, as well as with the architecture and history of the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto, the exhibition design becomes an additional perceptive and narrative element in the overall experience of the exhibition, starting from the use of materials that evoke and make manifest the erosive action of muggy weather and sunlight. The exhibition route comprises the environments that house the works, as well as rooms and spaces that appear isolated and protected, as if in an effort to stem the destructive potential of damaging external agents. And it is the staging of a hypothetical dialogue with a threatening outside world that guides the use of light throughout the exhibition – a light that hints, at different levels of intensity, at an intolerable climate bearing down on the space of the exhibition

CANICULA is open until November 22 at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto in Venice and features 8 new site-specific video installations commissioned from Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk, Janis Rafa, P. Staff, Wang Tuo, Yuyan Wang, and Maya Watanabe

Impressions from “Canicula”, the third and final chapter of the “Trilogy of Uncertainties” – a series of exhibitions commissioned by @fondazioneinbetweenartfilm exploring the design of moving-image-based shows as embodied experiences – currently on view at Complesso dell’Ospedaletto in Venice.

“Canicula” is curated by @alessandro.rabottini and @leonardobigazzi, respectively Artistic Director and Curator at the Fondazione, with set up and scenography by @2050.plus.
•
The exhibition design creates a sense of entropy, precarity and vulnerability, reflecting instability as a breaking point between escape and withdrawal. Heat becomes a spatial presence, turning the exhibition into a site of tension between exposure and protection, inertia and intensity, where perception is blurred and matter breaks loose. The spaces respond to these conditions, activated through incision, wrapping and distortion. Architectural proportions shift, while technical systems are exposed and repurposed as agents of the exhibition design, generating a space both being formed and on the verge of collapse.

@2050.plus has designed the set up and scenography for “Canicula”, a group exhibition commissioned by @fondazioneinbetweenartfilm, which just opened in Venice at Complesso dell’Ospedaletto, in parallel with @labiennale 2026.
•
Following “Penumbra” (2022) and “Nebula” (2024), “Canicula” is the third and final chapter of the “Trilogy of Uncertainties” – a series of exhibitions initiated by the Fondazione at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto, curated by @alessandro.rabottini and @leonardo.bigazzi. With this trilogy, 2050+ has explored the design of moving-image-based shows as embodied experiences, where scenography operates as an integral part of the curatorial framework.

Here, scenography operates as an extension of the films, translating their atmospheres and rhythms into spatial form. Conceived in continuous dialogue with the Foundation’s curators and the artists, the exhibition design becomes part of the curatorial script rather than a backdrop or technical support, moving beyond vision to engage the body and activate the works.

Canicula unfolds as a material, climatic, and mental condition – a state of saturation and suspension generated by relentless heat and light: floors rise, ceilings descend, surfaces blister or soften as if fatigued by exposure. Artificial light punctuates the path, shifting from flare to near-darkness while dense hues of orange suggest a metaphorical heat permeating the spaces from outside.

“Frontones Danzantes”, conceived and designed by @2050.plus, has made its first public debut in Logroño on June 18th, as part of the 12th edition of @concentricofestival, the International Festival of Architecture and Design directed by @jpenaibanez.

•

At a time when public spaces in cities worldwide are increasingly being eroded by privatization and commercial pressures, “Frontones Danzantes” proposes an ephemeral infrastructure that transforms a parking lot into a temporary open-air playground, proving that play can become a tool for urban transformation and the reclamation of public space.

From a simple gesture – a wall and a ball – the proposal revives the collective spirit of Pelota Vasca, a game derived from the 18th–century French Jeu de Paume, which employs existing architectural surfaces – such as the exterior wall of a church or a building façade – as playing surfaces. This traditional game is brought into the contemporary context of Logroño, transforming the Revellín car park into a site for encounter, participation, and shared experience.

🥎 Play can also become a tool for transforming public space. At Concéntrico 2026, 2050+ presents Dancing Frontons, an ephemeral infrastructure that reinterprets the collective spirit of Basque Pelota within the contemporary urban context.

Through three mobile frontons built with modular wooden systems and metal structures, the proposal transforms Parking del Revellín into an active landscape where architecture, movement, and sport intertwine as forms of collective gathering.

On June 18th, “Frontones Danzantes”, an ephemeral sport infrastructure conceived and designed by @2050.plus, was presented in Logroño as part of the 12th edition of @concentricofestival, the International Festival of Architecture and Design directed by @jpenaibanez.

•

Conceived as urban prototypes, “Frontones Danzantes” comprises three mobile walls designed for Basque Pelota, basketball, and football, forming an adaptable system that can evolve over time through the addition of new walls and sporting activities, from climbing to squash and beyond.

Temporary and adaptable, the system is built from assembled modular elements, combining timber panels and mobile metal structures. This setup allows the walls to move and reconfigure, generating different situations throughout the festival and establishing a continuous dialogue with the surrounding architectures.

The proposal rethinks the transitory character of the car park to turn it into a space of shared activity, where sport is understood as a cultural act and play as a form of civic appropriation. Architecture ceases to be a static backdrop and becomes a catalyst for new forms of occupation, activating public space through bodies and shared movement.
