peace family! now available on our site, new mitla earrings. our mitla earrings are inspired by the zapotec archeological site “the palace” in oaxaca. it is said there are over 13 greca patterns at “the palace” made from thousands of cut and polished stones fitted together without mortar. the name mitla is derived from the nahuatl word mictlan meaning “the place of the dead” or “underworld”. our milta earring designs are made from 1/8” gold and silver mirror acrylic with custom 18 gauge hand-formed gold-filled and sterling silver earring wire. as always we appreciate your continued support - tiahui!

Miquiztli meaning “Death” in Nahuatl, is the sixth day in the 260-day sacred Tonalpohualli or often referred as the Aztec calendar, Miquiztli marks a moment of stillness and introspection. It is not an end, but a transition, a glyph that speaks to cycles, ancestors, and the unseen forces that shape the living. The Miquiztli day in the Tonalpohualli reminds us that death is not absence, it is part of the sacred design, a necessary return.
