i named these earrings tlahtolli. it is the nahuatl translation for word, speech and/or language. this symbol represents the act of speaking as depicted in the codices. it is often used as a symbol or metaphor for speaking your mind or showing pride for your native culture and native tongue. i was honored last weekend when the performers of “la ofrenda” wore them as a collective including my wife and daughters.
