Last, but certainly not least, we have our third 30x30 Champion: the MPA Collaborative Network. 🌊🪼

This awardee is a little bit different from our others. It’s not just one person or organization receiving this award—it goes out to hundreds of Californians who are a part of this state-wide “network of networks.”

From the redwood-studded bluffs in the north to the palm-lined beaches in the south, every single coastal county has a collaborative advocating for the conservation of their local Marine Protected Area (MPA). The MPA Collaborative Network brings together a plethora of diverse perspectives to have a voice in ocean conservation: scientists, fishermen, tribal members, educators, conservationists—the list goes on and on. 🤿🏄‍♀️🧑‍🔬

The MPA Collaborative Network advocates for a bottom-up, community-based approach to stewardship, ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table—or, as they like to say, a place in the kitchen. Community involvement is essential for conservation, and the MPA Collaborative Network is a shining example of the partnerships necessary to achieve 30x30. by @30x30ca

Our second 30x30 Champion is none other than Jack Dangermond, the co-founder and president of Esri (the Environmental Systems Research Institute)! 🌎💻

Keeping track of our 30x30 progress would be a heck of a lot harder if not for Esri’s instrumental GIS technology. Esri’s commitment to accessible design enables us to maintain CA Nature, a user-friendly database showcasing California’s progress on 30x30. Their reach extends much farther than California, with their technology being used to track conservation initiatives across the globe!

But that’s not all! Jack’s philanthropic gifts have aided in the establishment of the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve, located on Point Conception in Santa Barbara County. That’s an additional 24,000 acres under the management of the Nature Conservancy—land that is home to elephant seals, mountain lions, manzanita, California lilac, and plenty more plants and animals. 🪻🦭😺

Jack has been a champion of biodiversity from the beginning, and we’re thankful for his contributions that not only help us reach our 30x30 goal, but also make 30x30 information accessible to all. by @30x30ca

We had the privilege of acknowledging three incredible champions of biodiversity and conservation at the 30x30 Summit at the California Academy of Sciences last month. The first champion we’d like to highlight is…the Pit River Tribe!

The Pit River Tribe led the effort to protect and establish the Sáttítla Highlands National Monument, in what is now known as the Modoc, Shasta-Trinity, and Klamath national forests. The designation of this land as a National Monument in 2025 protected nearly 225,000 acres of ancestral homelands, including the Medicine Lake Volcano. But this was far from an easy battle—it took decades of activism, storytelling, and advocating for Indigenous communities to defend this incredible landscape. ⛰️🌲

Sáttítla’s unique geology makes it a key water source for downstream communities and wildlife alike. Known as the “headwaters of the state,” it is a lifeline to not only Northern California, but also agriculture in the Central Valley. It is due to 30 years of on-the-ground organizing that this land is defended against development. The Pit River Tribe exemplifies perseverance, the power of co-stewardship, and the care necessary to protect these lands for generations to come. by @30x30ca

Day 30 of 30 Days of 30x30 🌲

It’s our second post of the day and the grand finale! We’re wrapping up 30 Days of 30x30 with Mae at Richardson Grove State Park, surrounded by the incredible redwood forests that remind us why conservation matters.

Over the past 30 days, we’ve traveled across California to spotlight the people, partnerships, and places that are making 30x30 a reality. We’ve seen Tribal stewardship, working lands, public lands, marine protected areas, community conservation, and so much more.

A huge thank you to every partner who opened their doors, shared their stories, and helped us showcase the incredible work happening across California. And thank you to everyone who followed along, visited a park, explored a new place, shared a post, or found a new way to be part of conservation.

30x30 is bigger than any one program or organization. It’s a shared effort to care for California’s lands, waters, biodiversity, and communities. Thank you for being part of it. 💚💙

Did you hear our BIG conservation news for California? 🌿

We’ve now counted more than 3.5 million acres of conserved lands and coastal waters since 2022 — putting California past the halfway mark toward the additional land conservation needed to reach our @30x30ca goal.

Secretary @wade.crowfoot breaks down the milestone and why it matters.

Big progress. Strong partnerships. More to come. by @30x30ca

Day 30 of 30 Days of 30x30 🌊🌿🐋

It’s a double post day! We’re kicking off our final day with Lauryn at Wilder Ranch State Park with the @ca.marinesanctuaryfoundation highlighting the Blue Whales Blue Skies Program and the connections between ocean health, climate, and biodiversity.

We’re also exploring how native plants can help build climate resilience. Protecting and restoring native ecosystems creates habitat for wildlife, strengthens natural systems, and helps our communities adapt to a changing climate.

From blue whales to native wildflowers, California’s biodiversity is connected. 💙

Day 29 of 30 Days of 30x30 🏜️🌵

Today we’re at Chuckwalla National Monument with Jose from @cofem celebrating what’s possible when a coalition comes together around a shared vision for conservation.

The designation of Chuckwalla is a powerful example of what 30x30 can help bring together: Tribal nations, local communities, conservation organizations, elected leaders, outdoor advocates, and so many others working together to protect an incredible desert landscape and its cultural heritage.

This is the spirit of 30x30: bringing people together across communities and perspectives to conserve the places that make California special. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make Chuckwalla a reality. 🌿

BREAKING NEWS: California just passed a major @30x30ca conservation milestone!

@cagovernor announced that more than 3.5 million acres of lands and coastal waters have been added to California’s conservation count — an area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined. More than 1 million acres were added to our 30x30 database just in the last year!

The milestone was announced at today's 30x30 Partner Summit in San Francisco and puts California past the halfway mark toward the additional conservation needed to reach our land goal.

Now, the work continues — with Tribes, communities, landowners and conservation partners across the state helping lead the way.

More at link in bio.

Day 27 of 30 Days of 30x30 🌾🐄

Today we’re with Brad at Willow Creek Ranch, a working landscape conserved through an easement with the @rangelandtrust, showing how ranching and biodiversity can go hand in hand.

Families who steward these lands are also caring for some of California’s most important open spaces and wildlife habitat. Thoughtfully managed ranchlands can support native species, maintain connectivity, protect watersheds, and keep large landscapes intact. Conservation easements provide a way to recognize and protect these conservation values for the long term.

30x30 is about conserving California’s full diversity of landscapes, including the working lands stewarded by families who are helping biodiversity thrive. 🌿

Day 26 of 30 Days of 30x30 🌲🏔️

Today we’re at Sequoia National Park with @wade.crowfoot to celebrate National Public Lands Day!

Our public lands are places to explore, connect with nature, and experience California’s incredible biodiversity. They play a vital role in protecting habitats, supporting healthy ecosystems, and providing opportunities for communities across the state to get outside.

Today, we’re celebrating these special places and the people who care for them. 🌿
