POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In August I had the incredible opportunity to study at
@oxbowschoolofart where I learned the practice of making floral sculptures. I discovered that working with flowers and foraged material brought me so much joy and grounding. Over the course of the week I made a number of floral arrangements, ending in building a boat-based kinetic floral intervention. I designed the boat piece to have agency, strategically tethered out of sight so that the piece could flow with the wind and tides. I built this piece with the intention for it to be a sort of floating forest island, something that has been and will continue to be.

I did my undergrad in climate studies, at a time when I hadn’t even considered myself remotely close to a photographer. I’ve been sailing since I was young. I’ve been thinking about ecosystems and boats far longer than I’ve been thinking about images. Putting it all together is a fantastic feeling.

Magenta Wave, flowers, vases, water, light, and nets, arranged in sculptural collaboration.

When @magenta.wave reached out to me about doing a studio shoot a few weeks ago, they asked me to build a concept around something that really excited me. They wanted images that were layered, interesting, and human-made. It’s important to me to make images that contain a certain gravity, images that reward you for looking closely. This shoot was one of those special shoots where a complex image in my head is translated through preparation, experimentation, and teamwork, to a real life photograph. Boys, I appreciate the trust.

No photoshop. No AI. Just physics.

Couldn’t have done the shoot without some incredible help:

Part 2: Over the summer I challenged myself to photograph as many artists in their studios as possible. It was important to me to make each portrait as authentic to the artist as possible, trying to translate the colors, themes, materials, and space in each artists’ work to the photographic composition.

I photographed twenty artists. Two favorites each from the final ten pictured here.

Artists all tagged in the photos.

I'm available for future portrait work. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @35mmett
