Kickin things off with Ricky, owner of @360selfdefenseacademy in Playa Vista and I’m stoked about it!

One of the hardest workers I know, and it shows in the gym he’s built and the students who love him for it. Ask anyone who trains with him or knows him, you’ll hear the same thing.

People say this all the time… until reality proves otherwise.

You’re about to lose the fight. You just don’t know it yet.

In a street confrontation, avoid the fight at all costs. De-escalate if you can. You don’t know that person’s background, their intentions, or what they’re carrying. Be the bigger person and be ready to walk away.

But if all else fails, be prepared to finish the fight.

Technique matters. But the mindset and situational awareness to make the right call before things go sideways, that’s what separates the trained from the lucky (or not so lucky).
