Pop quiz: Do you actually know what part of your hand is supposed to make contact when you throw a punch? A lot of people step onto the mat for the first time without knowing how to make a proper fist, or worse, they tuck their thumb inside their fingers (or try the disappearing thumb magic trick). The mechanics of a safe punch: 1. Roll your fingers twice and lock your thumb tightly across the outside. 2. Keep a straight, rigid wrist. Any bend in your wrist on impact gives you instant feedback that your joint is not properly supported. 3. Target the top two knuckles. Hold up a peace sign and trace down to the big knuckles of your index and middle finger knuckles which connect directly to the long bones of your forearm to absorb force without fracturing. 💡 Do this test at home: Get into a knuckle push-up position on the floor. Rotate your wrist alignment until you feel the majority of your body weight centered directly on those top two peace-finger knuckles. Next Steps: 📌 Save this post to check your alignment before your next striking session, or send it to a friend who needs to fix their fist! 🥊 Want to learn practical striking mechanics, Krav Maga, and self-defense in a 1-on-1 private environment? You are a human weapon. Learn to to use your body like one. They call Muay Thai the art of 8 limbs, but when it comes to self defense, we’re equipped with a lot more tools than simply punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. In a real fight, you need to use every weapon available - palm heel strikes, groin kicks, head butts, eye gouges, and palm heel strikes - to name a few. Anything goes. Learn various striking techniques and proper mechanics so you can defend yourself. Sometimes violence isn’t your choice. But we stay ready! Try your first 1-on-1 private lesson with Kaizen training 100% risk-free or come check out a group class over at @360selfdefenseacademy if you’re on the Westside. Link in bio. September 10th, 2015. The day Los Angeles became my home. I moved to LA from Miami with just a dream. I gave myself 6 months to figure it out and through faith, hard work, and luck those 6 months became an amazing 11 years. The best part of LA will always be the people & the community I made here. My next move is to a city I’ve considered my third home. I’m starting the same way I did in LA, with just a dream that will be built off faith and hard work again. Los Angeles. Thank you. For every moment. ❤️ Nashville. Let’s begin. 🎶 #LosAngeles #Nashville

Kickin things off with Ricky, owner of @360selfdefenseacademy in Playa Vista and I’m stoked about it! One of the hardest workers I know, and it shows in the gym he’s built and the students who love him for it. Ask anyone who trains with him or knows him, you’ll hear the same thing. Real leadership shows up in how you treat yourself and the people around you. Ricky lives that every day. Grateful for the convo and the laughs. If you’re in Playa Vista, go check out 360 Self Defense Academy, you’ll see what I mean!

You’re about to lose the fight. You just don’t know it yet. In a street confrontation, avoid the fight at all costs. De-escalate if you can. You don’t know that person’s background, their intentions, or what they’re carrying. Be the bigger person and be ready to walk away. But if all else fails, be prepared to finish the fight. Technique matters. But the mindset and situational awareness to make the right call before things go sideways, that’s what separates the trained from the lucky (or not so lucky). Try a group class at @360selfdefenseacademy or send me a DM to setup a 1-on-1 private lesson. #selfdefense #kravmaga #FightSmart

Anotha Day Anotha Pain⭐️⚔️ • What is really pain?! That is the question! I believe pain, is a temporary moment of sensation that certain parts of your body never experienced before, who send signals to your brain to stop because of the uncomfortableness that it go through! As soon as you keep train your brain throughout pain, the mental becomes stronger in capacity to endure and eventually to not feeling anymore " this moment Sensation " • Fight or Die is the mindset! Going for war is the mentality! Pushing daily is a duty. 👑🇭🇹Zoeboy🇭🇹👑🐾ThePanther🐾 🇭🇹HaitianSensation🇭🇹 #fightordie #fighter #boxer #workhardplayharder #painbloodsweat
