"I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to curate 'Sculptors: Material Conversations' at @ascasogallery . This experience has been an emotional and creative journey that has allowed me to explore the essence of sculpture and its ability to transform and transcend.

I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to the artists who have participated in this exhibition, representing both established masters and emerging voices: Agustín Cárdenas, Jesús Soto, Pablo Atchugarry, Francisco Narváez, Ryan Schneider, Vincent Beaurin, Mark Whalen, and Carolyn Salas. Their work is a testament to the passion and dedication required for artistic creation.

This experience has been a gift to me, and I'm excited to share it with the public. Sculpture is a universal language that transcends borders and cultures, and I'm grateful to have been a part of this artistic dialogue.

Thank you all for being a part of this creative and emotional journey."

We are thrilled to announce that a selection of works from our private collection will be featured in a curatorial project at The Boca Raton Museum @bocamuseum ,curated by our dear friend, Ross Karlan, Ph.D.
@_rossinante

The exhibition will include works by the renowned African artist Frédéric Bruly Bouabré.
This project celebrates Bouabré’s visionary practice and his profound contributions to contemporary art, offering a rare opportunity to engage with his legacy through a focused presentation following his survey exhibition at MoMA in New York.

It is an honor to be part of this project, and we are grateful to @_rossinante, @curatorkelli, and the entire team at The Boca Raton Museum.

Save the date: May 20, 2026 — we look forward to welcoming you there! by @404artcollection

“I observe, and what I see delights me. And so I want to imitate.” — Frédéric Bruly Bouabré

The Ivorian artist spent his life cataloging the world on postcard-size cards: cloud formations, scarifications, language, world events. Join Miami-based collectors Javier Martin and Austria Ulloa — founders of the 404 Art Collection, one of the largest holdings of Bouabré’s work in the U.S. — for a conversation on his practice, cultural memory, and why they’ve made it their mission to preserve his vision. Moderated by Dr. Ross Karlan, Curator-at-Large.

🗓 Thursday, July 23 · 6–7 PM
📍 Boca Raton Museum of Art
Free for members. $16 non-member adult / $9 non-member senior, Museum admission is included with each ticket.

Seating is limited. Reserve your seat — link in bio.

“Discovering new artists for us always starts with people.”

For Miami-based couple @javiermartinart and @austriaulloa, the story behind each work in their collection is all-too-easy to conjure—a studio visit in Tokyo, a late-night gallery stumble, a friend’s off-hand recommendation that turned into a life-changing discovery. Under the umbrella of the @404artcollection, the couple offers a variety of outward-facing services, including consulting, educational programs, and curatorial planning. But the collection itself is just as diverse, spanning from mid-20th century Ivorian artist Frédéric Bruly Bouabré’s drawings (which they’re lending to the Boca Raton Museum of Art for an upcoming show) to Indianapolis-born contemporary artist Ryan Schneider’s sculptures.

Pieces by emerging talents like Augusta Lecaros and Lucas Pereira Elias hang alongside historic heavyweights at the couple’s home, creating an eclectic mix that stands out against the crisp, white walls the artist-model duo leave as a minimal backdrop for their curation. At the link in bio, the collectors sit down to discuss the varied levers of their acquisition machine, and how two sets of eyes can be far better than one when it comes to spotting the hidden gem.

Every layer unfolds a story, this was a special project to curate and bring to life.

Thank you to @samideller ,founder of @imazfoundation ,for trusting in my vision, and to all the artists who came with openness and a shared desire to do something meaningful together for a great cause in Ecuador. @raizcaemba

Curating this project was about creating a dialogue between artists whose practices speak to material, memory, and transformation. My purpose was to bring together voices that feel distinct on their own, but become even more powerful when placed in conversation, turning the exhibition into a poetic space of meaning, care, and collective impact.

“Each piece offers a small, insistently poetic moment that also carries broader concerns: memory and archive appear in objects and surfaces that hold family and local histories; domestic labor and care surface in forms of craft and everyday practices that pass knowledge between hands; relations to land and materiality emerge in the way soil, water, and fiber retain ecological and extractive histories; ritual, belief, and syncretic practices are visible in repeated gestures and patterns; migration and borders register as traces of movement, displacement, and transnational ties. The artists follow material urges—firing insists, wash expands, stitch releases—and in doing so let feeling arise through process rather than through explanation.” taken in Governor's Island by @404artcollection

“When you stand close to these works, you enter a conversation that begins
with touch. Ten Latin American artists bring clay, watercolor, textiles, and
found matter into the room not as tools but as companions—materials
that remember fingers, spaces, studios, and the slow habits of making.
A glaze gathers like a memory along a rim; a wash of pigment settles as
if listening; a seam keeps the mark of a hand that mended it. These are
gestures of endurance and tenderness, acts that hold histories in the
grain of a surface.” taken in Governor's Island by @404artcollection

We are honored to share this special moment with you all.

Frédéric Bruly Bouabré: Selections from Our Collection is now on view at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, curated by Dr. Ross Karlan (@rossinante_). This exhibition invites viewers to connect with a practice deeply rooted in memory, knowledge, and the human experience. It marks the artist’s second museum survey in the United States, following his 2022 show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

On view through October 18, 2026, the exhibition brings together over four dozen works by one of Africa’s most revered contemporary artists. Bouabré’s drawings, often created on found materials, reflect a lifelong commitment to preserving knowledge, language, and cultural memory.

From his groundbreaking Bété Syllabary to The Knowledge of the World, his work stands as a profound visual archive of lived experience, spirituality, and collective history.

We hope this exhibition offers a space to reflect, learn, and engage with the depth of Bouabré’s vision, and to experience the enduring power of art as a vessel for culture and connection.
