Monday night is the kickoff—but A Common Element is bigger than one night.

A Common Element helps sustain the everyday work of 4 Elements while supporting arts access, artist opportunities, exhibitions, public art and accessibility improvements.

Our Mohawk Valley Gives goal is to raise $50,000 and welcome 20 new donors to the 4 Elements community.

Because of you, we were able to reach and surpass, our fundraising goal, with a new record number of donors supporting us this year. We’re incredibly grateful for every donation, share, visit, and word of encouragement.

Your support helps us continue providing creative programming, classes, and opportunities for our students, while strengthening the creative community here in Utica and throughout the Mohawk Valley.

That’s not a real question. I’ll always say more. 🫠

A few portraits of Tony - a pottery, drawing, and painting instructor at @4elementsstudio.

He’s a thread woven into this art community, and if you don’t know him, well, that’s just wild.

Tony told me this summer that he’d rather spend one of the hottest days of the year carving an art project than go on vacation. And that stuck with me.

I think that tells you everything you need to know about his commitment to the arts.

@dropdeaddave_ is a man who loves his insects, his wife, and his daughter. Not necessarily in that order. Talented as all get out, and working on some really cool things. 👀

He’s often behind the camera over yonder creating content for social media, but I was able to get him on this side too.

@eh_hsoe is the artist and creative mind behind a lamp that I’m absolutely obsessed with. I know that sounds oddly specific and vague, but trust me on this one. 😂

A few portraits here of @dana.frances.k, the Director of Arts Education over at 4 Elements Studio.

Dana’s artwork consists of some banger ceramic plants, and I need every single one of them in my apartment. STAT. 🌵

Also, please don’t take the song pairings too seriously at this point. I’m just committed to the Empire Records soundtrack theme, and if you know, you know. That can go off the rails pretty quickly. Sure didn’t give that enough thought. 🙃

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out, donated, shared, celebrated, and supported us last night during our @mvgives Launch Party and the opening of Kathleen Donovan’s exhibition “The Standing Roots.”

The night was a success, and it was incredible to see so many people come together to support both the arts and our creative community. We’re so grateful to everyone who came through the doors, spent time with Kathleen’s work, made a donation, shared the event, or simply showed up to be part of the evening.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week is Mohawk Valley Gives, a day when our community has the opportunity to put a little more energy, love, and intention into the places that make the Mohawk Valley what it is.

I think of community as something we continually shape together. Each of us adds our own piece, our creativity, generosity, and presence to create something that belongs to all of us.

That is what we try to do every day at 4 Elements Studio. We create space for people to make, explore, connect, and discover their own creative voice. And every person who walks through our doors becomes part of the larger work.

When we give to the organizations working in our own backyard, we help build the kind of community we all want to be part of. Every gift, large or small, becomes part of that effort.
