퍼포머로서 나는 ‘재봉틀’이라는 오브제가 지닌 기계적 리듬과 반복성에 주목했다. 헛도는 바퀴의 금속성 울림, 부러진 바늘이 천에 박히는 날카로운 소리, 페달 밟는 리듬. 재봉틀의 본래 기능을 제거한 후 그 소리와 움직임을 무용수들의 신체 언어와 결합시켰다.

의상 디자인에서는 ‘구조’의 가시화와 해체 과정을 핵심으로 삼았다. 사회적 격식을 상징하는 수트를 기본 패턴으로 선택한 뒤, 각 무용수의 개성과 움직임을 반영해 실루엣을 과감히 분해·재조합했다.

As a performer, I focused on the mechanical rhythm and repetition embedded in the sewing machine as an object. The metallic resonance of a spinning wheel, the sharp sound of a broken needle piercing fabric, and the steady rhythm of the foot pedal — I stripped the machine of its original function and fused its sounds and motions with the dancers’ physical language.

In the costume design, I centered on the visualization and deconstruction of “structure.” Using the suit — a symbol of social formality — as a base pattern, I boldly dismantled and reassembled the silhouette to reflect each dancer’s individuality and movement. by @50et1

이 퍼포먼스는 2020년 Paris에서 진행한 작업 ‘인지되는 몸’ 프로젝트의 일환으로, 재봉틀이 아닌 몸 자체로 옷을 만들어가는 실험적 퍼포먼스 작업이다.

먼저 의상을 퍼포머의 몸에 여유 없이 꽉 맞게 제작한 뒤, 날개뼈나 근육, 관절 등 신체의 돌출 부위에 작은 절개(가위밥)를 넣는다. 신축성 없는 천 위에 자리 잡은 이 절개들은 퍼포머의 움직임에 따라 점차 벌어지며, 옷의 윤곽이 몸을 따라 자연스럽게 생성된다.

This performance was part of my 2020 project in Paris, The Perceived Body, an experimental work in which garments are created by the body itself rather than by a sewing machine.

The costume is first tailored to fit the performer’s body with zero ease; then small incisions (“notches”) are made at protruding areas such as the shoulder blades, muscles, and joints. As the performer moves, these cuts in the non‑stretch fabric gradually widen, allowing the garment’s silhouette to emerge organically from the body’s form. by @50et1
