Francisco’s debut solo album is out today!

Carnaval De Oriente.

With Carnaval De Oriente, Francisco Mela releases his first solo album, drawing on childhood memories of eastern Cuba and the enduring spirit of the Carnaval de Santiago de Cuba. Rather than recreate the carnival, Mela follows its echoes through rhythm, voice, melody, and improvisation. Playing drums, percussion, guitar, glockenspiel, and voice, he moves between original compositions and vocal interpretations rooted in Cuban tradition. The music reflects on family, loss, place, and identity without settling into nostalgia. After decades collaborating with artists including McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, and Chucho Valdés, Mela turns inward, transforming memory into an intimate, deeply personal musical language.

Dave's A NOTION POTION evokes a contemplative mood, a magical place, a fleeting notion.

AIRLFT’s "Spatial Recognition" on 577 Records, captures a Philadelphia ensemble finding form through collective listening. Initiated by drummer and percussionist Kevin Diehl in 2022, the group grew from a monthly gathering into an evolving practice where composition and improvisation continually inform one another. Across two complementary chapters, graphic scores, structured works, open improvisations, grooves and abstraction coexist without hierarchy. Featuring Terry Lawson, Elliott Levin, Matt Lavelle, DM Hotep, Joshua Marquez, Pete Dennis, Tom Lowery and Diehl, the album reflects a deeply collaborative musical culture—attentive to space, rhythm, silence and spontaneous exchange. Spatial Recognition is less a fixed statement than a document of an ensemble discovering its collective voice in real time. Out October 16th.
