PRE-PARA SELECTION | CATTERICK TRAINING AREA

Fifth Regiment’s Pre-Parachute Selection Course rounds off the week on Catterick Training Area, making full use of the steep inclines and arduous terrain to test physical endurance, mental resilience and determination.

Joining the troops on the ground were the RSM and his dog.

A fantastic effort from all the troops representing @5thregiment_ra and @12_minden. Keep pushing, keep raising the standard, and keep driving forward.

YORKSHIRE GUNNERS | STRONGER TOGETHER

Deployed on operations, united by a common purpose.

Working shoulder to shoulder with our Slovenian NATO allies, soldiers from 5th Regiment Royal Artillery have come together to raise vital funds for a local charity.

Led by Bdr Moore, the Yorkshire Gunners have demonstrated that our commitment extends beyond the battlefield.

A fantastic example of teamwork, initiative and the strong bonds we build with our NATO partners, both on and off operations.

🇫🇯 ONE REGIMENT. MANY CULTURES. ONE FAMILY.

Different backgrounds. Shared values. United in purpose.

Yesterday, 10 October, the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major of 5th Regiment Royal Artillery had the honour of joining our Fijian community as chief guests to celebrate Fiji Day.

The celebrations began with traditional Fijian ceremonies, a song of welcome and the symbolic presentation of a whale’s tooth to the Commanding Officer. We heard of Fiji’s proud history, its enduring relationship with the British Army and paused to remember those Fijian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service.

The traditional sharing of kava followed, before an afternoon of singing, dancing and exceptional food, all made possible by our incredible Fijian families.

But this was about far more than celebrating a national day.

The strength of a fighting Regiment is built on more than weapons, equipment and battlefield capability. It is built on its people. On trust, loyalty, shared hardship and the understanding that when we deploy, train or fight, we do so as one.

Our Fijian soldiers and their families are an integral part of the Yorkshire Gunners. Their culture, commitment and warrior spirit strengthen our Regimental identity and contribute directly to the cohesion that makes us an effective warfighting force.

We recruit individuals. We build soldiers. We forge a Regimental family.

To our Fijian brothers and sisters, thank you for your service, your hospitality and for reminding us that our greatest strength will always be the people who stand beside us.

Whatever your background, wherever you come from, there is a place for you among the Yorkshire Gunners.

Personnel from across 53 AA Bty, 5th Regiment Royal Artillery, 5 RA Workshop and 12 Regiment Royal Artillery have all got stuck straight into the programme.

The first week has focused on building a strong physical foundation, developing individual and team resilience, as well as getting familiar with routes across Catterick Training Area.

A solid first week, with plenty more to come.

🪂 THE ROAD TO P COY STARTS HERE.

5th Regiment Royal Artillery has begun screening soldiers looking to take the next step and earn a place with the Northern Airborne Gunners.

Screening is the first hurdle for those aiming to take on Pre-Parachute Selection (P Coy) and ultimately join 53 Air Assault Battery.

Today’s tests included an 8-mile loaded march and a 1.5-mile best-effort tab, putting candidates’ fitness, determination and resilience to the test.

The screening was overseen by the Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 (RSM) Hill, who served a full career from gunner to WO1. He served with 7 PARA RHA in 16 Air Assault Brigade and oversaw Pre-Parachute Selection as BSM G Battery. His experience gives the Yorkshire Gunners first-hand insight into what lies ahead during the build-up and P Coy itself.

The standard is high. The journey has started.

Good luck to the future soldiers of 53 Air Assault Battery.

Yorkshire Gunners. Northern Airborne Gunners.

Key focus areas included:

🔍 Close Target Recce (CTR)
⚔️ Section & Platoon attacks
🩸 Battlefield Casualty Drills (BCD)

Professionalism. Excellence. Ruthlessness.
