Wearing my purple 90theoriginal shirt, and what better excuse to play some @templeofthedog? “Reach Down” is the longest song on the album, clocking in at over 11 minutes. Chris Cornell wrote it for his friend Andrew Wood of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, imagining Andy reaching down from above and lifting his fans to the promised land. Andy was such a unique talent. The charisma, the theatrics, that voice, and a personality that was beautifully his own. LONG LIVE THE LOVECHILD 333 💜

If you want to understand Seattle in the early 90s, start with Hype!
Doug Pray’s 1996 documentary is about what happens when a local music community becomes a global headline. It has the first live performance of “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” filmed at the OK Hotel in 1991. It has Megan Jasper’s story of inventing fake “grunge slang” for the New York Times, which the paper printed. And it has the bands themselves, funny and skeptical about all the attention.
In this clip, Kim Thayil of Soundgarden talks about fame, wearing the 90 face tee.
The film came out 30 years ago this year. I think it holds up because it was made with the community, not about it.
