I have no room for depression right now🫩

Anxiety is at an all-time high. Sleep is filled with vivid dreams and a racing mind.

Thankfully, it’s not paralyzing… yet. I know I’m going to need to calm my mind sooner than later before I overheat and shut down.

Another cause, that just came to my mind, is that I’ve been inconsistent with my mood stabilizing medication. I don’t know why I keep getting off track but I do😔

September was a crazy month filled with joy and family time. It was also filled with anxiety.

Time is moving so fast that it makes me feel Ike I’m running out of time. Losing sunlight doesn’t help either. Productivity is often associated with daylight and when it get dark at 4pm… well it seems like I lose opportunity to be productive from 5-9pm.

However, the beef of my anxiety lately has been the fear of rejection. The fear of what someone else thinks about me. The fear of being perceived as something I’m not. This has been altering my decision making this month. It’s a big reason why I haven’t posted😕

Understanding what I am and what I’m not is what helped me hit send or hit post. Remembering my why.

Xavier, today is your first birthday. Crazy how time really flies. Just yesterday, mommy and I were so excited to meet you. Just yesterday, you were learning how to crawl. Now, you’re walking, laughing, and eating up all of daddy’s snacks.

Daddy is so proud of you. You’re smart, you’re kind, you’re sweet, you’re sassy, you’re fast, you’re funny, and you’re one of my favorite people on this earth.

Daddy hasn’t been perfect. Daddy struggled to understand what it meant to be your father. But daddy tries his best and I love you with all my heart. At first, I had no idea what life would be like with a son and now I can’t imagine my life without you. You’ve changed me for the better. You helped me understand that I need to be okay so that I can be there for you and mommy. You taught daddy patience when daddy thought he was a patient person. You taught daddy that daddy’s a little sassy just like you. You have my attitude, my head shape, my stubbornness, and my humor. People say that you’re my twin and you really are. But your mommy’s twin too.

You have mommy’s nose, mommy’s determination, and mommy’s unconditional love. Without mommy, we are nothing. Mommy has been our rock, buddy. I’m so thankful for mommy and all that she does to take care of you and me. Mommy has also taught me patience. She’s taught me what true unconditional love is. She helps me to be a better father and a better man for you. I’m thankful for mommy being such a caring, patient, intentional, and brave mommy. I know that you drive her crazy sometimes, but she never loses sight of her unwavering love for you. You and I are so lucky to have her.

Today, you are the smallest you’ll ever be. We will never get over how big and strong you have gotten. You will always be our sweet little boy no matter how big you get. I thank God that He gave me you and mommy. I pray that God continues to protect you and continues to guide mommy and I to be the best mommy and daddy to you. We love you and we are so excited to see you continue to grow as a person and as a big brother. Just don’t grow up too fast, okay?

I will ALWAYS be here for you. I love you forever.

It’s been a month since I created this page. I’m beyond grateful for all the love and support this page and I have received. Sharing my story and advocating for men’s mental health has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but I, time after time, would psych myself out of doing it. I finally put my foot down.

Creating this page has broken down that door of self-sabotage. This past month, I’ve noticed that I’ve been intentional with choosing to take care of myself. From going to bed early, to starting new hobbies, to talking to myself more positively, I’ve changed so much in just one month.

Depression and anxiety took control over me for quite some time. Will it always be easy peasy? No. But little by little, I’m claiming myself back.

I look forward to continuing this journey with you all. May you continue to learn about signs of depression, anxiety, and suicide. You never know what someone is going through.
