An unbelizeable experience. 🇧🇿✨

I started at Southern University in 2023 with no animal experience, no internships lined up each summer, and a lot of uncertainty. After so many denial emails and rejections, I definitely lost hope. Even when I reached out hoping for an opportunity to shadow at veterinary clinics, it never came. Sometimes, “no” felt like the final answer. But I’ve learned that “no” doesn’t always mean never. It can simply mean something better is on its way.

Three years later, I had the opportunity to complete my first ever internship through a study abroad experience in Belize! Being able to do what I love while learning about veterinary medicine from a global perspective opened my eyes in a way I never expected. It showed me that there is a place for me in this field. Studying thousands of miles away from home was scary, but I would do it all over again. I’m forever grateful for the experiences, lessons, and connections I gained. This is an experience I will cherish forever. 🥹

As I continue working toward becoming a veterinarian, I carry an even greater purpose with me: to become part of the 2% of Black veterinarians in the profession and help make that number bigger. I want the next generation to see someone who looks like them and know that veterinary medicine is possible for them too. 🩵💛

Spend an unBELIZEable day with me studying abroad 🇧🇿🩺✨

First day of classes = a success! Learned suture techniques, assisted with spays and neuters, and turned classroom knowledge into real-world experience. The van may have broken down in 100° heat, but we learned to pivot and made the best of it. Just another unBELIZEable day! 🐄🐾 by @__.shugggiee.__

spring 2025, i took the sga test not knowing what to expect. after taking a year off and returning to sga, stepping back into student leadership felt different. when i was appointed activities coordinator, i asked sean, “why this position?” and he simply told me to be patient and see.

through a lot of patience and growth, i finally understood why. serving as activities coordinator became one of the best experiences i’ve had so far. this role was never just about planning events, but about learning how to lead, support others, and be well-rounded in every aspect. being on executive cabinet challenged me in so many ways, but every up and down helped me grow into a better leader. from helping baby jags and becoming not just a mentor but a friend, to building relationships with upperclassmen, i gained connections and memories i’ll always cherish. i thank God for every person this position brought into my life.

to @seanxinman, thank you for believing in me even when i didn’t believe in myself. thank you for trusting me as your activities coordinator and your escort. through every outfit change, rushed amazon order, and late night planning session, i’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to serve beside you. love you prez!

to @terrenreneee, my JSA mentor turned sister, thank you for everything. be able to go through this year with you was the best. from all of the canva flyers to recap videos, we always found a way to make it happen. forever my favorite PR, forever my girl. love you endlessly queen!🤍

to SGA, thank you for every lesson, every challenge, and every memory. it all shaped me to be a better leader.

signing out as your 81st administration activities coordinator of the executive cabinet.
