This is the debut album of TRAPEC (the new moniker of Chilean sound artist Jimmy Pizarro, —INSECTO / SPRO—), titled < espejismo en enfoque óptico >. Across its 11 tracks, this project explores uptempo rhythms that blend smoothly into a broad canvas of rich, tactile textures. It sits somewhere between cerebral sound design and a hypnotic, club-leaning dub-techno/minimal pulse. Stylistically, it shares some ground with the rhythmic sophistication of Shed, the hypnotic restraint of Efdemin, or the deep atmosphere of classic Basic Channel and Deepchord. The physical edition is highly limited—just 20 CD copies—packaged in a sealed industrial aluminum pouch with metallic labels printed on both sides. AMBARCHI · JAEGER · RUSHFORD AND THEIR AUDITORY ECOSYSTEM: HYBRID TIMBRES AND SPATIAL DECISIONS THAT TURN NOISE INTO SYNTAX Rather than an album, on Face Time (2018), Oren Ambarchi, Kassel Jaeger, and James Rushford craft an auditory ecosystem: a space where electroacoustics, warped dub, and concrete matter coexist without hierarchy, suspending any conventional notion of form or spotlight. Ambarchi doesn’t flash here; he sustains. His contribution lies in turning the rhythmic accident into structure, making the stumble and the awkward “pocket” the temporal backbone of the work, while Jaeger and Rushford saturate the space with hybrid timbres and concrete matter. It is one of their most lucid works precisely because the triad operates as a single organism: no one accompanies, everyone tenses the same world from different angles. In a landscape crowded with functional ambient and decorative textures, Face Time is a reminder that the true avant-garde isn’t about sounding weird—it’s about building worlds with their own rules, where every timbral choice has consequences. And the rules of this world are uncompromising: here, space is not background, it is a character; noise is not an effect, it is grammar. DEMDIKE STARE & JON COLLIN: MAGNETIC TOPOGRAPHIES, ORGANIC PSYCHEDELIA, AND THE RITUAL OF TAPE The collaboration between Demdike Stare and Jon Collin stands as one of the most austere, profound, and singular dialogues in contemporary music. At its crossroads lies a collision of industrial archaeology and spectral folk: Collin’s open-tuned, raw acoustic guitar subjected to DS’s magnetic degradation, dub processing, and sound design. Their two albums to date—Sketches Of Everything (2020) and Fragments Of Nothing (2023)—both released via DDS, the revered UK label famed for its meticulous, limited-run curation, unfold as portals to an immaculately crafted organic psychedelia. To enter these recordings is to slide into a sheltering gloom. Collin’s guitar exhales the memory of a desolate landscape; his open tunings and whispered slide release hovering harmonics steeped in creaking wood and raw room tone. DS captures this breathing and feeds it into a tape-hiss tide. The sound saturates with analog warmth, cradled by subtle spring reverbs and magnetic delays dissolving like fog. There is no cold tech here—only a golden-static trance that wraps and protects. Listening on wax adds a distinct physical and acoustic dimension. The analog warmth of the groove interacts organically with the tape hiss, blending the needle’s faint mechanical crackle with the room’s ambient dust. Playing these LPs in full reveals their true nature: literal, linear journeys where the needle suspends chronological time. These are essential, permanent fixtures—unadorned, natural psychedelia deeply bound to vibrating metal and magnetism.
