De passage aux @rencontresarles, on s’est penchés sur la sélection OFF avec l’artiste chercheuse belge @___laurewinants et ses impressionnantes photos colorées de bulles polaires ❄️🫧

Sa série Time Capsule, exposée à Arles avec la galerie @echo119_galerie, dévoile les récits enfouis dans les bulles d’air emprisonnées depuis des millénaires, à travers le prisme des spectres lumineux.

Mêlant récit d’anticipation et expérimentations art/sciences, elle explore les temporalités profondes et fragiles conservées dans la glace et révèle ainsi les empreintes lumineuses des climats passés, figées dans ces capsules naturelles. Une traversée du temps pour interroger le passé et esquisser les futurs possibles. by @___laurewinants

👩‍🎨Laure Winants @___laurewinants, artiste-chercheuse belge en arts visuels, a pu embarquer sur Tara en tant que lauréate du jury de résidence artistique Tara Europa.

🇮🇹🇬🇷Arrivée à Venise durant la Biennale, elle s’est jointe à l’équipage jusqu’à Patras en Grèce.
A bord de Tara, son travail s’est d’abord porté sur l’observation des protocoles scientifiques et sur la manière dont elle pouvait accompagner cette exploration de l’invisible.

🔬Le projet de Laure a pour objectif de rendre les écosystèmes microscopiques et les données scientifiques visibles, notamment l’impact des pollutions chimiques le long du littoral.
Pour cela, elle a entrepris différentes techniques à bord et sous l’eau dont les photogrammes et chimigrammes, des techniques de photographie expérimentales et interactives.

💦A l’aide de papiers photosensibles immergés, elle a pu capturer la présence et l’interaction des molécules du vivant, des éléments polluants, ou encore la température et la salinité de l’eau.

@___laurewinants is a researcher and field-based visual artist working at the intersection of ecology, natural science, and experimental photography.⁠
⁠
Her ongoing project Time Capsule takes place in the heart of the Arctic ice pack, where she joined a four-month polar expedition alongside a team of multidisciplinary researchers.⁠
Rather than documenting the Arctic from the outside, Laure works with the landscape itself as co-author. The interaction of ice, light, and chemical composition shapes the final image, revealing crystal structures and traces of nature’s history.⁠

In this project, photography acts a form of ecological listening where the image becomes a record of interdependence, fragility, and beyond-human time.⁠

We’re getting ready for two of our latest residency outcomes to be launched at the museum of the Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels.

In dialogue with the scientists and the collections of the Institute of Natural Sciences, artists Laure Winants and Adrien Lucca, transformed scientific insights into immersive artworks.

The results reveal invisible processes in nature that our (human) eyes cannot see…

We’re taking a stand with @UnitedArtistsforClimate during COP30.

As COP30 begins in Belém (Brazil) ten years after the Paris Agreement, the 1.5°C threshold is still at risk. This moment reminds us how closely culture and ecology are intertwined: how artists, cultural workers and initiatives can help make subtle ecological processes visible, and help communities pay attention to the signals that matter.
