Did you know the Sacramento Embroidery Art Museum has a little library? Physical books are one of the last ad-free spaces in our lives and are under threat from AI. The SEAM library has 100+ titles, including some rare and out of print books. About 2/3 are focused on a broad spectrum of fiber arts, and the rest are an eclectic mix of Sacto guidebooks, collage, watercolor, scientific illustration, natural history, community organizing, a few issues of Sassy, and of course zines. Plus comfy seating and good lighting 📚😌 by @___s_e_a_m___

It was a banner week for the SEAM library! Heartfelt thanks to @tuskandcardinal for donating signed copies of her excellent cross-stitch books, including her newest one. Her books are so well done and I’m thrilled to have a local artist on the shelf! The visit with her and @goodenoughsketching was so fun 🖤 I also found some amazing used books, including a 1910 book with a chapter on “How to Form a Home Museum” and a 1929 book that was apparently in the library of a vintage fashion museum in a town that’s only a 2-hour drive from Sac! I found a 1998 SF Gate article about the place that has loads of juicy details. Two of my favorite tidbits: the home-based museum was started by a former “real estate agent and nightclub singer” and “when McClain opens cabinets filled with stacks of immaculately preserved Vogue magazines from several decades, a vintage fashion fan could spend days — months, perhaps — poring over the thousands of volumes of periodicals, archival books, slides and related materials.” If you know anything about this place or Patti Parks McClain, please reach out! by @___s_e_a_m___

Congratulations @___s_e_a_m___ ! The Sewing, Embroidery, and Art Museum is the fifth largest museum in Sacramento, containing the most works of art by contemporary women this side of the Mississippi.

Our Corinna is a leader in elevating and preserving the textile arts. Today’s artist talk with @anastridendeavor was not just a phenomenal success ~~ but also a significant milestone in the development and preservation of this important collection.

The SEAM collection was safely moved to its new home and today celebrated the completion of the museum’s first artist residency, which Astrid wa sable to leverage into an opportunity to work big toward a project that’s been in development for over a year.

The Sacramento Embroidery Art Museum owns more works by @oandystudio than any other artist in the collection! The crewel-on-crochet technique she *originated* creates the yummiest textures and her command of color is GOALS. Andy is also a dear friend who contributed the Mycrones guidebook (iykyk…and come visit if you wanna find out!) P.S. the whale-themed doily is by @two.mushrooms 🫍 by @___s_e_a_m___
