The art of noticing the clouds during blue and golden hour. The art of not rushing sunsets is the art of returning to yourself. Of remembering that beauty does not demand effort, only presence. Let the sky remind you that rest is not something to earn, it is something to accept, and something to protect 🍭🍃⛅️ #bluehour #monsoon #monsoonseason #clouds #sunsets taken in Heaven on Earth by @__ajcr

The American Dream means more than just celebrating 250 years of independence and getting to watch a fireworks show on a lake with loved ones. Freedom means years of sacrifice, diligence, and perseverance to achieve success. At its inception, this “sacrifice” meant leaving behind homelands or risking everything to build a life from scratch. It represented a forward-looking promise; people sacrificed present stability for the potential of future prosperity and a better life for their children. For me, it is a reminder to be grateful for the sacrifices and the life that my parents and relatives chose to leave behind in the 🇵🇭 to build a better future for their families and the next generation. Your guide to hiking Half Dome for the first time. Save this post and tag a friend who you’d want to bring along with you. Have fun & stay safe! :)

1. Start the hike early. If you plan on hiking before 4am, carry a fully charged headlamp. Plan for ~18 miles, 10-12 hours round trip.
2. Bring grippy gloves. A pair of garden gloves work well.
3. Hydrate 3-4 days leading up to the big hike. Bring at least 4 liters of water and a collapsible water filter like a portable Katadyn BeFree bottle.
4. Trekking poles are a must! Your knees will thank you later.
5. Wear shoes/boots with excellent grip. I wore the Altra Lone Peak 9’s (non-waterproof as it is lighter on feet).
6. Carry a backpack that fits your frame.
7. If you must bring a backpack to the top, bring a smaller day bag and leave the bulky one at subdome.
8. Take as long as you need on the cables.
9. If you see dark clouds, don’t attempt it.
10. You can use a climbing harness if you want.
11. Get into the best shape you can. Upper body and grip strength is a must for the cables section, and don’t neglect leg workouts for the incline.
12. Bring extra socks, shirt, hat, sunglasses, and shell jacket to protect yourself from the elements. Sunblock also helps.
13. If you take a lot of photos/videos, bring a battery pack. Have a hard copy of your permit available.
14. Eat, eat, and eat some more. Pack snacks like beef jerky, trail nuts, fruits, etc. what you pack in, you must pack out. Bring a garbage bag for your trash and leave no trace.
15. Know yourself. There’s no shame in turning around.
16. Practice hiking etiquette. A simple ‘hello’ or ‘thank you’ goes a long way. Respect the trail and wildlife.
