Hoarding Unpacked Coffs Harbour training day done and dusted. Thanks to my mum who came on a road trip with me, attended my training for her first time, was a great assistant, and grabbed a few snaps. I got an ocean swim in at Woody Head on the way down the coast. An engaged and interactive crew attended from various roles and organisations. Lots of rich conversations, connections and shared learning. Next stop for my training is a private delivery in Underwood QLD, then back to NZ and online in December. taken in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales by @__maire_joy__

So excited to share with you all my little peace of paradise, my work space and also newly listed on Airbnb.

Welcome to Te Whare Āhuru Mōwai. A secluded health retreat tucked away on the sand dunes of the Wild West Coast of Piha. Less than 5 mins walk to south Piha beach, admire the incredible views from the private sauna, challenge yourself to a cold plunge, exercise in the swim spa, or let your muscles relax in the spa. The birds, trees and ocean are your sound scape.

Āhuru Mōwai is Māori for a calm place, a sheltered haven, a sense of physical and emotional safety, and peacefulness.

Continually mind blown by how incredibly beautiful my back yard is. Anawhata Beach - the beach I learnt how to walk on. I was a home birth child from half way along the windy dusty road of Anawhata. We had a little community built preschool under the pine trees below the beach car park. It burnt down 40 odd years ago now. I once owned a beautiful, very old cloth covered Māori dictionary, my prized procession lost in the floods. I scored it at a second hand market stall for $2. The book stated that Anawhata meant food cave or ladder of love, after a Māori story of young forbidden lovers trying to reach each other and a flax ladder thrown off the cliffs to the beach uniting them. Anawhata Road where the Maire tree grows - my namesake. Feeling so blessed to be living in this Wild West Coast landscape. I often have the experience of the deepest gratitude as if I’m seeing it all for the first time over and over again. taken in Anawhata Beach by @__maire_joy__

A connective and educational day at the @intersexaotearoa Social Cohesion Wānanga in #auckland today. Mind blown by the incredible speakers, new friends and colleagues, new ideas flowing. Let’s celebrate and advocate our whole community including our minority and often over looked intersex whanau - no one left behind. Please reject and push back on the ‘definition of a man and woman’ bill. Gender is not binary and is fluid and complex in its presentations of chromosomes, genes, hormones, and anatomy. Let’s put this colonial hyper focus on genitalia to bed and embrace indigenous ways that encompasses variations in nature being something that is sacred and to be appreciated. We are nature folks.
BTW do you love my new T-shirt? taken in Tāmaki Makaurau - Auckland by @__maire_joy__

One of my favourite moments during my recent Australian trip - time with Biscuit my puppy dog. Biscuit spent a few years with her first mum aka my best friend, and then lived with me for nearly ten years and now she is living back with her original mumma. Getting old and slowing down she holds a special space in my heart. taken in Nimbin, New South Wales by @__maire_joy__

Making the most of my good health and this incredible earth.

I’ve woken up to my body aching in all the right places after walking 17klm and 23,500 steps over the weekend while climbing 500mts up a mountain and carrying a 8kg backpack. My first hiking hut sleepover. Coming up to my 47th bday and I couldn’t be happier with my health. I always wanted to grow up to be one of those wild bush walking women. 2 years ago I couldn’t have done this but after my hysterectomy my body is so much stronger and I’m living with so much less pain. I’m so aware that health is such a precarious state so apprecating every moment while I can. After the hike we swam and floated and got naked in the most lush crystal clear stream. I even got a wee cliff jump in. Happy belated international womens day to all the wonderful women that have been part of my life: inspiring me, cheering me on, supporting me, laughing with me, challenging me, letting me lean on you, leaning on me, learning with me, building community with me
- I see you, I appreciate you, I believe in you - arohanui big love to you all.

This walk was up the Billy Goat Track to the Pinnacles Hut in the Coromandel Peninsula, then up to the Pinnacle summit and back down the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail. taken in Pinnacles Summit by @__maire_joy__

3rd year in a row attending the treaty of waitangi events at the treaty grounds. Officially my favourite yearly event. Amazing 2 days full of Māori cultural performances and practices, art, food, educational opportunities, healing, politics, communities, language /te reo Māori, speeches and forums, live music - all the things. Particularly loved the huge hoards of kids jumping off the wharfs and bridges doing manus/bombs. So special to be joined by my friend Manu @manumouses - we meet doing a korowai cloak weaving course together 3.5 years ago. This trip was extra special as we both bought our daughters with us for their first Waitangi event. We had the best crew and such an easy flow between us all. My cultural cup feels well nourished and I’m feeling inspired. Can’t wait until next year. @scarlett.ahi @h3sp3r4_n1mmy thanks for being so awesome. taken in Waitangi Treaty Grounds by @__maire_joy__
