More about @angels_front’s artistic practice of “critical simulations.”

Drawing on art’s singular experiential and imaginative capacities, Angels Front build worlds of their own to explore how technologies shape us and, in turn, the ones we inhabit.

As our cognition becomes a new battlefield, they devise tools and strategies to intervene in this realm, working directly on the resilience of our perceptual faculties.

« The goal is not to determine what is “real,” but to learn how to move between realities without surrendering our agency to any one of them. »

A new chapter of DIE & RETRY opens at Les Magasins Généraux as a one-month exhibition-residency.

DIE & RETRY is a long-running “critical simulation” by @angels_front, conceived as a site for collective training amid the current regime of cognitive warfare.

Join Family A22 as they evolve in a surveilled domestic environment sustained by a technological apparatus that continuously captures, transforms, and broadcasts their actions live, and gives rise to competing perceptions.

The simulation runs throughout opening hours and is streamed live on Twitch and YouTube.

DIE & RETRY explores how perception and human relations are being reshaped by new technologies amid the current regime of cognitive warfare. In response to the growing weaponization of the cognitive domain, Angels Front proposes a simulation as a space for play, experimentation, and collective training.

The evening takes the form of an expanded screening of the first iteration of DIE & RETRY, alongside a testimony from simulation player Jean-Charles Dumay (@jeancharlesdumay), followed by a conversation with Angels Front (@angels_front) and performance curator-producer Lily Matras (@__plaisirdoffrir).

This event is presented ahead of Paris Art Week, during which the next chapter of DIE & RETRY will be inaugurated as a one-month residency-exhibition at Magasins Généraux, and as part of the Art Basel Paris VIP Program.

Introducing our new creation:

DIE & RETRY — Simulation no 1
Premiering at Fondation Fiminco in Paris on 27 June 2026

DIE & RETRY is a multi-chapter, site-specific simulation designed to study, anticipate, and counter the effects of cognitive warfare. It follows test-family A22, whose members are brought together by Angels Front to explore ways of resisting technology-induced contemporary psychosis.

Building on our ongoing investigations, we have developed a hybrid operational model integrating intelligence, academic research, artistic practice, and corporate culture within an immersive environment that blurs the line between reality and fiction. We anticipate that this near-life simulation model will enable forms of collective training for our audiences and beyond.

DIE & RETRY is co-produced by @fondationfiminco, @maggeneraux,@lelieuunique, @lecubegarges; supported by @lefresnoy, and developed in collaboration with producer and advisor Lily Matras (founder of @__plaisir d’offrir and former co-director of @theperformanceagency). Her expertise in shaping complex performance-based formats provides a strong foundation for this multifaceted, inquiry-driven work.

French-German curator-producer Lily Matras investigates the intersections of art and society through performance practices and site-specific approaches. She co-founded the artists’ publishing house Lapin-Canard and co-directed The Performance Agency until 2024. She currently leads @__plaisirdoffrir, a platform dedicated to the curation and production of live art. Her work explores how experiential formats can foster forms of community.

A PROMANCE
Flora Bouteille & Lily Matras 

What began six months ago in Kigali as a casual conversation between two wedding guests wrapped in a traditional Umushanana quickly escalated into an entirely new cycle of work.

And this is how we:

- teach an experimental seminar for Master’s students in Public Affairs, Culture track at @sciencespo Paris: “Simulation: Thinking New Forms of Cultural Production.” 
- initiated a related research project on simulation practices, forms of pre-enactment, and their artistic relevance, among others in conversation with the Sciences Po médialab 
- unfolded an extensive collaboration for the development and production of @angels_front’s new body of work, DIE & RETRY, set in a context of cognitive warfare 
- are leading a broader reflection on our take on performance art—what it is, what it does, and how it operates—and on ways of affirming it through exchange, initiatives, and community building

Thinking Bodies is a seminar we conceived together with @andreapetitfriedrich for undergraduate students at @sciencespo, and have been teaching each year since 2019.

It invites students to approach performance art as a way of thinking through the body while exploring its political potential and, more broadly, reflecting upon the politicality of art.

Over the course of one week, we move continuously between theory and practice: texts, discussions, and the study of key works are interwoven with exercises, try-outs, and moments of feedback. Together, these challenge assumptions around norms, collectivity, power, risk and failure—activating the body’s multiple capacities, and helping students to articulate their own understanding of performance, what it is and what it does.

Each student develops and carries out a performance piece in public space. On the final day, we follow a loose itinerary across the city, encountering one situation after another, with a striking level of engagement.

Working with students whose training is primarily intellectual and shaped by high academic expectations, this shift toward embodied attention opens something essential. Learning to think, experiment, and act through the body resonates deeply, and their feedback speaks of a lasting transformation.

This year, we also had the chance to teach the seminar at @lacademie.fratellini, with circus students whose relationship to the body is almost the inverse: highly trained and virtuoso. It was striking to see how performance art could offer them another space—one where proficiency gives way to a quality of presence which could, in turn, nourish their own practice.
