MoMA Tech Rehearsal for “Pageant Presents Pageant” about a month ago inside the Kravis Studio. Devi and I quickly run through the dance while Sharleen coaches a tricky moment of partnering. Jake hooks up sound in the back. Museum and Pageant staff station themselves around the edge of the red platform stage. Out the window is W 53rd Street.

Tere O’Connor returns to Live Arts this December!

A first look at Tere O’Connor’s remount of “Construct-A-Guy,” captured during last week’s work-light rehearsal residency! Featuring performer Tim Bendernagel.

Originally made for and performed by himself in 1984, he premiered this solo as part of the Live Arts’ legacy program Fresh Tracks, which originated at Dance Theater Workshop in 1965 to bring new choreographic artistry to the forefront.

While “Construct-A-Guy” emerged from O’Connor’s early artistic naiveté, it established the distinctive craft methods—shifts in rhythm and energy, spatial fragmentation, a collagist sensibility, and fluid movement between multiple meanings and personas—that still define his work today.
