Amusement, a new work by Alexa West
Commissioned by Beach Sessions
Performed Saturday, Sept 12, 6pm
Rockaway Beach, Queens

Drawing on decades of cinematic and televisual dance that privileges entertainment, spectacle, and effortlessness—from 1940s Hollywood musicals to 1980s Italian variety shows—Alexa West reinterprets, and at times distorts, these onscreen choreographies, producing a work of pastiche that estranges as much as it cites.

Choreographed by Alexa West
Performed by Tim Bendernagel, Isabelle Dayton, Cayleen Del Rosario, Benin Gardner, Amelia Heintzelman, Jordan Lloyd, Owen Prum, Molly Ross
Artist Assistance by Olive Bonner
Dramaturgy by McClain Groff
Sound Design by Alexa West
Speaker Design and Fabrication by Material Service
Scenic Design by Alexa West and David Selig
Scenic Fabrication by Ozcelik Carpentry and NYC Parks Department
Produced by Morgan Griffin and Sasha Okshteyn

So many things to wrap up about this amazing summer I’ve had, but wanted to take a moment to shed a light on the incredible August I’ve had with MARINA at @littleislandnyc. Credits are listed below of all of the once-in-lifetime artists and collaborators I was BLESSED to work with, but my god I truly wouldn’t have survived the past four weeks without the generous and hilarious and brilliant @annalieberman1 who fills every gap I have and reminds me what it means to approach your work with patience and a smile (and beautiful paperwork.)

The Whitney has a brilliant producer in @wizbeff who is too talented for her own good, and has shouldered more work and responsibility than I knew to be humanly possible. A remarkable talent who makes it all look so easy, even when you get a slight peek behind the curtain that confirms your suspicion of madness.

What a gift! What a delight! Thank you Julio and Martine for your demented theme-park play!
