Comment EPISODE for a DM with a link to listen/watch.

This week’s guest is DJ and A&R @deanbryce - we look at his sound system roots, where jungle changed everything for him, and his career through buying, to management, sync, and A&R upto now where he runs @dont.sleep.dont.sleep and where he mentors young A&Rs too.

Lots of gold dust in this episode, as always. Great to hear a chain of events where one opportunity opens the door for another.

Enjoy!

Been a while since we’ve had a turntablist on, so how better to get back to it than with a World Famous Beat Junkie!

@djmelod is an internationally acclaimed world champion battle DJ, and party rocker of the highest standard, and a proponent of Beat Junkie style, an elite level trick mix style which still prioritises funk and arrangement over tricks.

He was the resident DJ for Quincy Jones’s Vibe TV show, held residencies in Vegas (which we unfortunately only got into off-camera), amongst more.

On this episode we go granular both on his come up, and on techniques too.

Hope you enjoy! by @_adamgow

Just recorded a wicked podcast with the legend @martin2smoove at @thisistyx - being the same age as Martin it was awesome to compare paths through the same eras, and nice to get into a bit of my own journey.

On a side note I just need to shout out the @thisistyx team as we had a bit of a tech issue on a previous session which they were looking after me with already - and their customer service has been absolutely amazing after said tech issue - and having worked in customer service in the past, I always like to big it up when it’s done well, so hats off to them and give them a shout if you’re looking to record a podcast or use their plug and play studio spaces! by @_adamgow

I’ve been thinking for a while about reposting some old eps, and on the back of publishing the new @cutchemist episode, I thought it’d be cool to republish this one with @djnumark - now available as video.

It was really nice to revisit this, loads of interesting stuff in there covering Nu’s heritage, DJing, production and more. Love that he discussed the Sapo record which Cut also described, used for Lesson 6!

(the red bit is supposed to be a not to an Obi Strip which says reissue so apologies if it’s totally wrong).

Enjoy! by @_adamgow

Comment the word EPISODE for a DM with a link to listen.

This one’s been near the top of my wishlist since day one.

Cut Chemist — half of the Jurassic 5 production team, the other half of Brain Freeze with DJ Shadow, the man behind The Audience’s Listening — sat down with me for Episode 85, and we went deep.

From kicking along to a Bobby Darin concert before he was even born, to the Rhino Records quarter bins where he and his friends quietly built crates of beats nobody had touched, to the Jungle Brothers album that made him realise he could make “a record made out of records.”

We get into the J5 years, sharing the production chair with Nu-Mark, the all-45s leap into Brain Freeze, the solo tightrope of going it alone, and the candlelit listening parties he’s pouring everything into now.

It’s long, it’s gloriously nerdy, and honestly I couldn’t have asked for more from someone who’s shaped my own DJing this much.
