I have a lot of feelings about how all of a sudden Americans know that El Salvador is a country, and yet only seem to know one thing about it - MS13/violent/“illegals”😒

So, here are my favorite photos I’ve ever seen of my Grandmother with my Uncle Joe ❤️ They were taken on a recent trip back to El Salvador to visit family. And as you can see, she is glowing 🥹🥰 It’s so clear to me in these photos that she was meant to be on that land. And YET!! She gave up her home and everything she knew to come to America as a single mother and give her children and their future children more than she could have ever dreamed of.
.
This stunning matriarch of our family is the strongest, hardest-working and most God-fearing human I’ve ever known. And she also raised 4 beautiful children who are each incredible human beings themselves. I cannot quite describe the immense pride and gratitude I feel just thinking about everything she survived so I could live the life I have now.
.
So, when you watch the news tonight or hear people talking about current events, please… PLEASE remember she is from El Salvador too. And we as humans are all so, SO much more alike than we are different ❤️

If you’ve tried to contact me in the past week or so, sorry you missed me. I’ve been busy celebrating my favorite person graduating from COLLEGE 🥹😭 and wow… has it been surreal. To say that I’m proud is an understatement. Inspired might be a better word, but it still falls short. Mija, I am in awe of you. You are one of the kindest, funniest, most loyal and most beautiful people I have ever known. And it was clear this weekend that I am not alone in that. It was amazing to see all of the family and friends who traveled near and far to be there and celebrate with you, and I’m so grateful. You are so, SO loved Danielle. No matter where you go or what you do next, always remember that. You will never be alone because as it turns out, you have one HUGE support system always right behind you ☺️❤️

I absolutely LOVE the intention behind this current trend for women empowerment. But I also couldn’t help but think about how Breonna Taylor might have participated in this trend this week, but she can’t because she was murdered by Officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankinson, and Myles Cosgrove...
.
So here I am with no makeup on and messy hair because women are fucking AMAZING, and powerful, and beautiful AF just as we are... But I’m also still advocating for black lives because Black Lives Matter is not a trend. It’s a movement. It’s a revolution. So that it can one day be a reality.
.
So please, even if your timelines don’t show it as much or even at all anymore, PLEASE do not forget that there are currently active duty police officers who are murderers yet still in uniform. Please do not forget that black men are still 2.5 times more likely to be shot and killed by police than white men. Please do not forget the fight. Please vote and use your voice... and I’m not just talking about the presidency. The real change happens within our communities and our local governments. So make sure you know when your local elections are, and go out and make a difference! I’m guilty of forgetting about my local community government myself, so I will be researching it this week so I can make an educated vote in the next elections. I challenge you to do the same if you haven’t already ☺️✌🏽🖤
