A Turks and Caicos Islander who passed through the gates of Kingston College has just done something no Caribbean student has done in fifteen years.

Antwon HF Walkin (@_antwonw) a Howard University Master of Architecture student from Providenciales, has been elected Chairman and President of the Howard University Student Association Senate.

He is the first TCI national and the first Caribbean student to hold the seat since the body was established.

The KC connection matters. The Purples have shaped Caribbean leaders, scholars, and athletes for over a century, and Walkin is the latest name on a list that runs from prime ministers to Olympians. He left North Street, ran for Howard, and is now chairing the legislative floor at one of the most consequential Black universities in the world.

For context: HUSA is the student government at Howard. The Senate is its legislative branch, the room where student policy gets written. Walkin will chair it.

The TCI population is around 47,000. Smaller than Mandeville. And one of its sons, sharpened at a Jamaican school, is now running that room.

There is no single road to greatness.

It was an honor to speak at Howard University’s Transfer Pinning Ceremony and welcome our transfer and nontraditional students into a community where their stories, experiences, and journeys belong.

“You are not behind. You are not late. You simply took a different road to get here.”

Tonight was more than receiving a pin. It was a reminder that your Howard experience does not begin when everyone else’s did—it begins exactly where you are standing right now.

Your road here may have been different. Your time here may be shorter. Your story may not look like everyone else’s.

But Howard is now part of your story. And more importantly you are now part of Howard’s.”

Men of the Mecca is proud to announce this weeks man of the week as Antwon HF Walkin our 15th Chairman of the HUSA Senate.

Antwon H.F. Walkin is a student leader, architect-in-training, and civic advocate whose journey to Howard University has been defined by perseverance, service, and a determination to create space for those whose voices are too often overlooked.

A native of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Walkin arrived at Howard after an educational journey that had already taken him across the Caribbean, including years of study in Jamaica. Entering Howard with a different cultural background and lived experience, he quickly found purpose in helping strengthen the connections between students, their university, and the wider communities Howard serves.

He currently serves as Chairman and President of the Howard University Student Senate, becoming the first Turks and Caicos Islander, first Caribbean national, first student from the College of Engineering and Architecture, and first Architecture major to hold the position. His rise to the chairmanship was built through years of sustained service within the Senate. Before assuming its highest office, he represented the College of Engineering and Architecture and served as Chairman of the University and External Affairs Committee, where his work focused on strengthening student advocacy, institutional engagement, and Howard’s relationships beyond the campus.

He continues to pursue that work with a commitment to service, representation, and Audacious Excellence.

This Commonwealth Day, I had the honour of contributing to the National Youth Parliament on the topic of Youth Voter Registration and Participation.

My phrase of the day was simple but powerful: “Send the light.”

I say this because the youth are the light of our country. Our energy, ideas, and courage have the power to illuminate the path forward for our nation. But even the brightest light must be supported and nurtured.

Young people are ready to leave our mark. With the support of our government and the encouragement of our people, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

So today I say it again: Send the light and watch the youth lead the way. ❤️🇹🇨

I was told I was too young. Too bold. Too ambitious.
But I believed that from this small island, greatness could rise if only we could out work behind our dreams.

After a year of pushing through silence, setbacks, and sleepless nights — I’m proud to officially launch the Turks and Caicos Society of Young Leaders (TICSYL).

This isn’t just an organization.
It’s my heart poured into purpose.
It’s the cry of a generation refusing to wait their turn.
It’s the birth of a movement that says: we are the now, and we will shape the future. We are going beyond blue and yellow.

From humble beginnings to international boardrooms, every door I’ve walked through has prepared me to advocate and lead. For us. For change.

This is only the beginning.
And we’re just getting louder.
