CPU NATIONALS '24 🇨🇦

Grateful for my first national meet. A very memorable experience to lift and be around some of Canada's strongest athletes.
13th/19 place in Group-B Junior 93kg

Squat: 240kg | 529.1lbs (+20kg MEET PR)
Bench: 150kg | 330.7lbs (+7.5kg MEET PR)
Deadlift: 242.5kg | 534.6lbs (-15kg ripped thumbs)

Total: 632.5kg | 1394.4lbs (+12.5kg MEET PR)

402.78 DOTS 🥳
no longer a sub-400 dots lifter

Big ups to @nyshemedia for cooking this up and featuring me in 2 of the recap reels 🙌🙌🙌

Despite not having the best prep from having my thumb ligament badly sprained to tweaking my back 3.5wks out. @sam_candyboi and many others at @makeyourmark_fitness helped me find the light and continued my prep, ensuring the best outcome despite injuries.

I hope to be back competing at this level at '26 Nationals.
Lots of work to be done.

🔵 Blue Card
4️⃣Any downward movement of the bar before it reaches the final position. If the bar settles as the shoulders come back this should not be reason to disqualify the lift.

2025 Jr Provs Recap (better late than never lol)
5th overall in a pretty strong 93kg class

BW: 92.9kg // 204.7lbs
Squat: 235kg // 518lbs 3/3
Bench: 160kg // 353lbs 2/3 (-2.5kg comp best)
Deadlift: 252.5kg // 557lbs 2/3 (-7.5kg comp best, tried n failed 272.5kg)
Total: 647.5kg // 1427lbs
84.72 GL, 411 DOTS

Wasn't so thrilled going into Provs. By far, it was my worst prep I've ever had. Sorry, coach @sam_candyboi , the externals took me by storm. Dealing with injuries from my right knee, left elbow, biceps, and triceps to a popped neck vein was not enjoyable. And to top off training with said injuries, working a warehouse job, a food service job, and school. Deep down, I know I could do so much more. I am taking a break from 3 lifts and doing bench-only for now while I strengthen the rest of my body for my 3-lift return.

To the spotters and all volunteers, a big thank you. Meets can't be done without you. S/o @mischiefmediastudios and @twinsuns.media for media coverage. And cheers to @bandofbarbells for running another successful meet.

To everyone who came out or tuned in to watch—thank you all! The support means everything.

MYM JUDGMENT DAY 📽

Meet no.6 in the books — 655kg total w/a big 162.5kg bench PR (12.5kg up from '24 Nats 6mo ago)

Firstly, huge congrats to @makeyourmark_fitness for another fun successful meet. Huge s/o to the boys at @twinsuns.media for the media, and big thanks to @csvntos for editing this masterpiece. Lastly, big thank you to all the volunteers 🫡.

Onto my yapping:
This weekend was a very tiring one — I reffed and ended up handling @thenovicepowerlifter last-minute the day before I competed. All while gut/watering cutting, safe to say I was running on fumes on Day 1. Then, I was handling @_wayofbtb right after I competed 🫠.

Prep is never smooth — from managing my right knee pain, left elbow joint pain, and a back injury 1.5wks out (I couldn't even deadlift 170kg w/o pain). Then comes meet day, and thankfully, my body held up.

Coaching and competing at the same time was definitely a real balancing act. Thankfully, it all worked out. My athlete was near the top of the flight, and I was closing it, giving me enough time to reset and lock in before each attempt. Huge thanks to @sam_candyboi for coaching me & gameday handling and to @_joe_jiang for helping me handle @large_individual19.14pluto in the warmup room — couldn't have done it w/o a team.

Lots of data collected from this meet — physically, mentally, and strategically — from both an athlete and coach perspective. Lots to reflect and improve on before Provincals.

Proud Filipino moment 🇵🇭🇵🇭—Sir Marlon popped off at BoB March Madness.
Marlon cut protocol went too far and somehow got to 90kg, leaving lots of room to fill. But the strength still held on the platform.

Wild to think we've only worked together since Dec. 2024. Big progress since then. Big BW PRs. Lots to come with Young Marlon.

S/o to @bandofbarbells for another well run meet. And s/o @tomatohat
for running to the store and getting painkillers for the boy 🫡

Huge shoutout to Haram for exceeding expectations on his first-ever powerlifting meet. He came in very nonchalant, had no jitters, and executed each lift like a seasoned lifter. Despite cutting an entire weight class, brother shocked me with his performance. I'm super proud of how he handled everything. And a HUGE shoutout to @_joe_jiang for helping me handle Haram in the backroom.

Eye's are set on BoB Summer Cup ☀️. This is only the start. Back to work.

My personal favorite is long pauses just cause you should always expect a long press command on meet day.

-----

Close-Grip: Strengthens the triceps for improved lockout. Alternatively, you could just hammer your triceps on accessories.

Long Pause: Builds strength and control off the chest by killing momentum. By far the best variation that all programs should have imo.

Tempo: Builds up leg drive coordination and bar control through a slower descent, forcing you to maintain constant leg drive. If you don't you'll have a fun time doing these.

Spoto: Reinforces tightness and tension by pausing just above the chest.

Larsen: Removes leg drive, making you focus more on upper back tightness and pure pressing strength. It'll also work on your stability.

Low Pin Press: Helps sinkers by reinforcing a controlled press from a dead stop close to their midpoint (which is usually a couple inches off the chest)

Board Press: Targets the midpoint, helping those who struggle with soft touch or inconsistent bar path.
