Philadelphia’s arts community is coming together to celebrate the city’s creative spirit, and we’re proud to be part of it.

Alongside @operaphila @ensembleartsphilly @barnesfoundation and @artphilly2026 we’re celebrating Philadelphia as a vibrant home for artists of every background and discipline.

At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, that celebration continues with “A Nation of Artists,” our landmark collaboration with the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Featuring more than 1,000 works, including over 120 iconic paintings and decorative arts from the Middleton Family Collection, the exhibition explores the richness and complexity of American art through Philadelphia’s unique lens.

Thank you to the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial for supporting this citywide celebration of arts and culture.

A stove cast by enslaved ironworkers. An oil painting of a steam turbine. A nylon stocking beside a lightbulb. Over the course of What Now: 2026, artist and public historian Aislinn Pentecost-Farren (@aislinnpf) led audiences through @scihistoryorg, @philamuseumart, and @phillyseaport, re-narrating familiar collections to uncover the hidden origins of the climate crisis.

"From Our Forefathers" asked us to look again at the objects we thought we knew, tracing a line from Indigenous dispossession and the Industrial Revolution to the catastrophe we live inside today.

To understand where we are, Pentecost-Farren began at the beginning.

Philadelphia's arts community is doing something special right now and we're proud to be part of it.

We, along with @operaphila, @philamuseumart, @ensembleartsphilly, and @barnesfoundation, are coming together to celebrate Philadelphia as a vibrant home for artists of every background and discipline.

What Now: 2026 presented 30+ projects by and with local artists throughout the city in dialogue with the nation's 250th anniversary. The last five weeks affirmed that artists remain the most astute and incisive interpreters of our time.

Thank you to the Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial for your support in making this possible.

More than 20 years ago @flygirrl @allworldyameen and @questlove created a new space in Philly nightlife that still exists today. It was one of many moments of Philly history surfaced during @kingbritt’s @blacktronika and the intimacy remains. Tastytreats was a time!

Philly venues mentioned:
- Fluid
- Filo’s

Over the last few months, NKCDC and partners, including Rewilding Philadelphia, artist and educator Pedro Ospina (@theopenkitchensculpturegarden), @acadnatsci, @muralartsphiladelphia, and Natural Urban Forests (@naturalurbanforests), have been engaging Kensington residents in imagining and designing a new pocket forest that will be planted at the Jasper Street Greenspace on October 24th. We want you to join us!

The Jasper Street Greenspace is a former industrial site turned greenspace located along the Conrail tracks. Like many post-industrial sites, making any plans for the space requires thoughtful planning, partnerships with expertise, and resident input to safely bring the space back for human use and to remediate and heal the land. As part of this process, we've been working with environmental partners to test the soil onsite to better understand the site's history and soil conditions. Any designs and implemented plans will consider the site's industrial history for the safety of plants and people.

Planting a Pocket Forest on the site will provide an opportunity for afforestation. Using the Miyawaki method for rapid native forest creation, ten years after the planting, the site will mature into a cool, shady, dense, and biodiverse public space teeming with life, enhancing an already existing native plant haven occupying part of the space!

Are you interested in caring for plants and a community greenspace? There are still opportunities to get involved with restoring and healing the Jasper Street Greenspace in Kensington:

- On October 21st, we’ll be hosting a community volunteer day! Help us rake and shovel the site to prep it for planting day!

- On October 23rd, there will be an opportunity for kids to volunteer at the space as we finalize the prep for planting day!

- Join us for a planting day on October 24th!

Come help us plant 1,500+ native trees! Join us for food, live drumming, art, and native plant education!

Class is in session and the course is called @blacktronika: Philadelphia Now and Then taught by professor @kingbritt.

Blacktronika during @_artphilly gave us an incredibly history lesson on the dance floor through a series of parties that represented Philly culture at home and abroad.

The lesson extended off the dance floor to Clubfriends at @meantimephl where the artists and creators who shaped a decades long scene detailed how it happened and what it meant for all of us.

Martha Graham's performance "American Document" redefined modern dance by weaving together movement, spoken text, and American history to explore national identity and social justice.

Now, choreographer @tommiewaheed Evans, sound designer @uwazi_zamani, and dramaturg Ain Gordon have collaborated on a response to that landmark work, in their performance "in case of fire, speak," featuring a combined cast of @marthagrahamdance and @philadanco, and presented in @_artphilly 's festival "What Now: 2026" this past summer.

On Sep 18, the Library for the Performing Arts hosts a conversation moderated by ArtPhilly’s Curatorial and Deputy Director Tania Isaac, Evans, zamani, and Gordon, who will share an inside look at their collaborative process.

A few months later and I’m still grateful for this one 🕺🏽🔥

American Street Dance Festival was another chance to step into the circle, trust my training, and just dance. Every battle keeps teaching me something different about my locking, my musicality, and who I’m becoming as a street dancer.

Big shoutout to my crew “Super Late” 😉 for getting down with me and bringing that energy. Always better when you’ve got people beside you in the cypher.

Much love to @urbanmovementarts and @_artphilly for continuing to create spaces for Philly’s dance community to show up, connect, and represent.

🎥 Filmed by @bridgetteivko_media — thank you for capturing the moment!
