Was having such a good time at the show in Seoul that I forgot to share these.

In strange times, it felt good to make something that required crossing an ocean, looking closer at another culture, and finding connection instead of difference. A small reminder that curiosity is still a pretty good way forward.

Thank you to @francisgallery for making it all possible, and for the care that went into every detail.

Sun, Moon and Peaks ~

Seoul! Very happy to be here, very grateful to share this work, and still slightly confused by the time difference. @francisgallery @nadiayaron

Roberts has recently been drawn to the irworobongdo (일월오봉도), the iconic Joseon screen of sun, moon, and five peaks. The imagery is symbolic and was never meant to depict an actual place, only to illustrate a whole cosmos held in balance. Watching footage of a spacecraft drift past the moon’s far side, she found herself thinking of what astronauts have called the Overview Effect — the whole Earth appearing small and borderless against the dark. The Joseon screen captured this perspective centuries earlier. Excited to announce that my Solo exhibition ~The Year Room ~ will open this weekend at @francisgallery and will be up during Frieze LA. I’ve been working and collecting ideas for this show for a long time. I hope the show is a hug of a year with its 12 large scale works that represent time and transitions through the seasons 🍂

Night Pool (Triptych) 2025

So happy to finally share this work! Knowing I would be in conversation with @lilyyill I wanted to explore my own personal concepts of gravity and water. This led to investigating Tide Pools which are guided by the moons pull.

This work is where gravity loosens its grip enough for wonder to come in. Where sea creatures—like us all—are forced by harsh change to become resilient.

Exhibition Copy:

“In Night Pool, Roberts’ algae-laced triptych teems with intertidal life and is rendered in soft,luminous tones of turquoise, mossy green, and dusty lilac. This blurred palette acts as a soft veil over the landscape, suggesting a state of hypnagogia, or the waxing and waning of consciousness, like the currents of a tidal flow. From these depths, Clark’s Inyo emerges into the foreground, extending a conversation on water from the tidal to the geological. Together, the works ruminate on time, erosion, and reflection, tracing the cyclical forces of gravity and how they shape our materiality,landscape, and inner terrain.”

François Ghebaly Los Angeles is pleased to present 'Dew Point,' a two-person exhibition featuring Los Angeles-based artists Lily Clark (@lilyyill) and Ash Roberts (@_ash_roberts). An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 17 from 6 to 8pm.

Working across diverse media, Lily Clark and Ash Roberts engage with organic processes and states of ephemerality, phenomena that resist control or containment, to foreground the elusive bond between the natural and constructed world.
