My favorite thing about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the community. These guys could easily brush me off bc of my size, but they are intentional to challenge me to make me better. I’m more comfortable in being able to protect myself, I’m the healthiest version of myself, and I am so thankful to be apart of this community. Every time I need them, but I don’t know how to ask, they show up in the exact way I need. Getting on a stage in a sparkly bikini is way scarier than getting on a mat fully clothed. Here’s why… My old body building coach screamed at me mid show and I had placed top 5. I lost 2 matches and my coach @rodneysouzabjj hugged me, said it’s ok, and he was proud of me. @deojiujitsualabama and @championshipmixedmartialarts have given me the best village. Combat sports are the right choice… at least in my opinion. 🫶🏼 #brazilianjiujítsu #whitebelt #grapplelikeagirl by @_aunt.d_

I competed today and did my best to represent @deojiujitsualabama and @rodneysouzabjj well. I did No Gi and Gi, which was a first. I’ve only ever done Gi in a tournament. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to train under one of the best @rodneysouzabjj , to train with the best @deojiujitsualabama , to cross train with the best @championshipmixedmartialarts , and to be surrounded by people that hugged me while I was adrenaline dump crying. Winning is fun… but the way these amazing people have positively impacted my life is the best part. I just want to pass it on to others. I will say it was a very humbling moment when the woman I lost to in Gi told me that I was the reason she signed up. She kept seeing my name and we are close to the same age. This was her first tournament and she killed it!!! No Gi was new territory, but I did bring home gold in that one. So much more to learn and I can’t wait to get back to it to keep growing. Thank you to everyone that took the time to cheer me on. I promise I heard ya’ll… I was just really slow to react by the end. 🤣 We’re gonna work on that too! #deojiujitsualabama #nogi #gi #whitebelt #fightlikeagirl by @_aunt.d_
